I did and had no problems for several years. I wasn't reving it to the moon though. As said before it would be a good idea to upgrade your springs, now your gonna compress already worn springs a little further. As far as what could happen most likley thing would be valve float at higher rpm costing power, worst case is a spring breaks and drops a valve the rest is history. It looks like you've already put em on!

Considering that LT4 springs are almost cheaper than a tank of gas, it would be stupid not to install them with the 1.6 rr's. The stock springs will be very close to coil bind and if that happens, the valve will drop and you will be replacing the motor as a result of going cheap. But its your motor.

Nice. I have the same cam and I love it.

You can put just 1.6 RR on a stock cammed car and it will run. But given the age and ratings for the stock spring I especially wouldnt recommend them now. Doing springs is not a hard job. Its a PITA but not hard. Plus if you do a cam with in a year or so that meets the requirement, its one less step if you go up on the bump stick.

All good advise already given, I'd recommend new springs as well, as stated they are not expensive, good insurance and can be done in a couple hours taking your time and that's including hooking up the electric bump start to set the lash, etc.

You'll want to get new valve seals and hardened pushrods.
This will give you an idea of what you have to do:

Either get the crane valve spring tool for a LT1 or get Tim's valve spring tool.

I have 1.6's with stock springs, but I only occasionally(sp?) rev to 6k, I try hard not to go over that. Springs will be upgraded later this year when the 227 goes in
