Default Oil Pump

Hey guys I dont think it is possible, but can you take the oil pump out with the engine still in the car or do you have to remove the engine out of the car.

Yep, just have to drop the pan and you can get it off no problem. Getting the pan off is a little bit of a PITA though.

its not bad. i have dropped mine and had it back together in a hour. just take out the k member bolts. but leave the front 2 in. just loose. and take out the 2 motor mount bolts. the k member just drop down quite a bit then. and you can jack the engine and tranny up a little and it should squeeze out of there.

Why do you think you need to change the pump?

Low pressure is far more likely bearings than pump.

Yes, especially if its after a cam swap. The pumps hardly ever wear b/c all they do is push oil a lubricant.

So where are the bearing on the oil pump? Or are you talking about other bearings. I hope I do not have to take this engine apart again.

If it was after a cam swap it would most likely be the cam bearings (motor must be pulled) but it could also be the main or rod bearings.

Well that would suck because I decided not to do them. If I have to do them now I am going to be really mad. I left everything alone because the oil pump was pushing 35-40 psi at idle. The cam bearing looked good when I had the cam out that is why I did not change them out.

How low is the oil pressure now? 35 - 40 at idle is pretty high. The minimum spec is something like 6 psi.

Well I know its very low. Nobody has a guage and wire that I can buy. And when you give it gas it goes up to maybe 10. So I am thinking that the drive shaft has come loose. So tomorrow I am going to take the intake off and check everything including my new cam to make sure nothing is scored. If nothing is scored and the drive shaft looks good I will replace the pump. If stuff is scored I am going to save up a 6.0l swap.

Well got a mechanical gauge and the news is not good. My car has zero oil pressure. So hopefully nothing is damaged and I can find my problem. However knowing my chances I damaged bearings and stuff like that. So what would you guys recommend doing?

Well I have some good news. Took my intake off and the bolt that holds the oil pump drive on had backed out. So there is oil up in the intake and on the lifter and it looks like everything will be safe. I am going go pull a lifter in a few mins and check everything else out.

Here is the thing that backed out
