i uncapped the EVAP solenoid just to see if it impacted the rough idle...it didnt 
i dont know what else it could be...the only other thing i changed was the vacuum line from the intake to the EGR valve...i removed the lin and capped off both the egr valve and on the intake where it would have hooked up at.
just to recap..here are the symptoms:
somewhat rough idle...seems to be gasping until 1500-1800 rpm...oil pressure fluctuates sporatically....this leads me to believe it is indeed a vacuum issue in the intake...
any ideas????

Sometimes there is a vacuum line on the driver's side of the intake that will rot on the underside I forget what it goes to, but it's a short, fat line that has a 90* bend in it. Underneath that bend the hose may rot and cause a pretty big vacuum leak.
