would this kit(Cloyes Gear C-3039) be a good choice for a timing chain set?thanks

Cloyes Gear 9-3145

^^^I believe that is the one you want. You will have to delete your reluctor ring and clearance the inside of your timing cover also.

thats all i have to do on my 97 style timing cover for this timing set to work??

I forgot that you need to use an EWP as well, but same goes for the C-3039.

As far as stock timing set durability goes, breakage is very rare. If you want to go with a more durable aftermarket timing set, might as well get a double roller...

not sure if you are meaning that you have to use an ewp with the c-3039 or not, but just to clarify things you dont have to. It is built for the LT1 and has the water pump drive gear on the backside of it.

Oh, didn't know that. I'd still tell him to get the double roller since he's running an EWP.
