Blew the rear end up last night and I know the ring gear broke. It made that classic sound. Bang, a loud wine slowly turning into a clank, clank, clank and then followed by several BOOMSSS! Think im going to try a 4.56 gear this time. I dont think it will be to much for the street with a 6 speed. Plus does anyone know what series carrier comes in these cars stock. I think its a two series carrier but im not sure.

The person I bought the car from said it had 4.10's in it but the car will run 150mph in 5th at around 5600rpm. I dont know, I have to get the cover off the rearend and see what is really in the car.

If I were you I'd save my money and buy a 9", 12 bolt or S60 rear because you're just going to keep blowing the stock rears with a t56, trust me I blew 2 sets of 4.10's before I finally said screw it and got an S60 for my car.
But a set of 4.56's in sixth gear is 2.28 final drive which aint bad.

Well im going to get the 4.56's now. Plus I think they hold up a lot better than a 3.42 due to the fact of the size of the pinion. Less stress and strain.

4.56 gears will be quite a bit weaker than 3.42's, think about it. The 3.42's have less teeth on the ring gear making them quite a bit stronger, since they are thicker. In a better rear end such as a s60 or 9" I would say go for it, but not in a 10bolt. Good luck!

I have broke more 3.42's and 3.23 in a 7.5. I have never broke 4.10's even after grenading a carrier. Just my experience, less teeth means faster rotation which puts less stress on the engine and rear end.
