I'm having trouble finding a starter I trust. Right now I have a cheap autozone starter in my car and it's horrible. I already had it shimmed once, and now it needs to be shimmed a second time. Jegs and Summit don't seem to sell a starter for my car. Ideas?

Edit: Actually Jegs does have starters. Is Powermaster pretty reputable?

Yes, powermaster is a fine starter. I think we have 153 tooth flywheel SBC starters if I'm correct.

I am using part number 555-10001 on my 383, and would use it again.

I was under the impression for most LT1 apps, starters DO Not need to be shimmed..

I'm going to make this easy.

Walk into Autozone. Give them this part number. 17124. Pay for it and the core charge, swipe your rewards card. Go home. Take old starter out. Put new starter in (should not need to be shimmed). Put old one in box. Take back as core. They will not know it's not the same. Be happy.

If you're having problems with 17124 starter, you've got other issues.

I agree..I've got many Starters for LT1's from there and didn't have to shim any.

I've had this one starter in my car for about a year before it started making a noise. I shimmed it and the problem was solved for maybe one more month. I think it's just cheap and falling apart.
