Default oil pressure problem

ok i pull into work this afternoon and i go around a corner at 10mph and the check gauges light comes on and i look and my oil pressure went to 0!!! once i straightned the wheel it returned to normal(think round 40) and went around another and it did the same thing.

edit

well left work(only mile from home) and it happened 3 times. it drops to 10 and quickly to 0 for about 3-4 seconds and then jumps quickly to 40. what in the world. weird

Sounds like the oil pickup on the oil pump fell off. That's a common symptom.

Fix it fast before you damage something.

Does it happen under braking?

You'll need to remove the oil pan in order to get to the pickup. If it has fallen off, you will want to tack-weld it back on.

Yes, check the oil for metal and tear open your filter. Hopefully you got lucky.

It's not too bad. What I do is chain my engine to my STB and that allows me to drop the k-member out completely and doing the pan is easy then. Might as well do the motor mounts and install a new oil pan gasket while you are at it.
