Default cc306 .. what are you using with yours

ok i bought a cc306 a couple months back and im just getting to install it now along with a set of long tubes and a couple other goodies.. anyway im not sure what springs locks and retainers to use i was going to go with crane 10308-1 set but now that they are out of buisness im not sure wat to go with was thinking the comp 918's but what locks and retainers? im planning on reusing my stock lifters depending on what they look like if they're bad ill use ls7 lifters because the car only has 60k on it and using my stock timing chain but is there anything else that i should replace while im at it? Im also going to be adding a p&p intake bored to use a 58 mm tb, a 58mm tb, longtubes,30# injectors, Ported heads, and a pcm4less tune, Im hoping for a solid 400 to the wheels but id be happy with 375 which i beleive is certainly attainable. I have read just about every cc306 thread on this site and have searched and searched but felt the best way to anser my questions was to post my own thread.. thanks

all depends on what heads you use.

With Comp 26918 springs you need Comp 787-16 (retainers) & Comp 648-16 (locks).

With quality ported heads and a good tune, ~400rwhp is a very realistic goal.

You can call up comp and have them put together a kit for you.
Or you can order the Patriot Gold spring kit that is advertised a lot on this website.
Another option is PAC 1218 springs.

FYI if you look at the following link, Comp gives you all of the part numbers you want:

http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...csid=1103&sb=2

*Note: I would use the Comp 1305-16 rockers over 1317-16 rockers. That will require the use of guideplates and ARP 7/16" rocker arm studs.

i wouldnt use comp cams for ****. everything ive had from them has broke. except my pushrods. the poly locks that came with my rockers have broke 1 at a time in the last year. untill this last time (the 4th one) i replaced them all with different ones. last year in my race car i broke a cam in half. it just broke in half. ive spent too much money on comp cams **** and just got screwed by it. some of their **** might be ok. but ive had no luck at all with comp cams. i run lunati from now on. and summit brand rockers.

Well you'd be the first person I see dis Comp that hard. I remember the 918 failure fiasco, but they fixed that. Their stuff works excellent for me...

ive heard to people that i know lately that 1 had a rocker fail and bent a comp cams hardened pushrod and it tore his cam up, and another friend i think had a spring fail a im not sure what happened exactly to his motor but he had to do a small rebuild... and this kind of scares me because me and my dad have just putt comp cams stuff in our cars...

I've always used comp Cams stuff without any failures, are you sure you've adjusted your rockers correctly, also if you're turning high rpm you really should be running shaft rockers or a stud girdle.

you should opt for a dyno tune imo, no reason to do all that work and leave power on the table

mail order tunes are great for break-ins and mild stuff but I'd rather spend a little extra and have all the benefits of a full tune

i run 7/16 studs and shift at 6500. the ones i put on dont break. first they loosen up. then when you try to tighten them they just fall apart. i mean just a little bit more than finger tight then bam. it snaps. im pretty sure i know how to adjust valves. it has been awhile since ive had hydraulic lifters. i cant seem to get out of the habbit of grabbing the feeler gauge.

No part from any vendor is 100% bullet-proof. For a performance giant like Comp Cams, one or two defects per thousand is completely acceptable in my book.

FWIW, I've never had a problem with any of their products.

OP, if you want a full kit of springs, locks, retainers, etc., the Patriot kits are hard to beat. You get pretty much all you need, except pushrods and lifters, for just $255. And they'll handle more lift than Comp springs that will end up costing you more after everything is pieced together. https://www.patriot-performance.com/...&cat=52&page=2
