i would like to keep the block on a desent budget cause i want to send the heads and intake off to Elliot Port Works. I got a donor block from a 95 and it is going to the shop this week for Boil, Maged, Bored, Honed, Freeze Plugs & Cam Bearings. Im not not sure if im going to spray it yet this is why i said forged. Better safe than sorry i guess

if your replacing the crank why not just go bigger displacement? I would have if I was going to replace mines, but I just stayed 355/w freshedned up bottom end. Wouldn't cost that much more to have your block clearanced for the bigger stroke. I guess it all depends what your goals are with the new motor.

Im just making a 355 full emissions car, i live in Texas and have to do a sniffer test every year So im going with the LE1 set up. My son is 14 and i will probably passing the car to him in 2 years and i will get me a C5. Dont want anything to outrageous for his first car and something he doesn't have any trouble getting his inspection sticker every year. Thanks for the info guys please keep it coming

ever considered just to freshen up the bottom end? if its nothing too radical. recon rods fitted with arp hardware and cut the stock crank would be perfectly fine and save some money also.

and i figure i can recoup some of the money i spend on the block by selling mine thats in the car now, or building a nice 383 with it

and this will give me some time to put the motor together(something i haven't done in years) with my son. The motor thats in it now is leaking oil from almost every seal and gasket there is on the car

IMO, if you're planning on running a 355, use the stock crank. If you want an aftermarket crank, go with the 383.

I know how you feel man. I'm going to college here for 4 years starting here in a month and am still deciding what I want to do.

I can either rebuild my car and do heads/cam to make some good power and have a SWEET DD Trailblazer SS AWD after college or I can buy a used C5/C6 do anywhere from full exhaust to heads/cam depending on what year I get but then I'd only get to have like a used Impala as a DD...

Decisions, decisions. I have $29,000 now, but trying to invest it and make it about $38,000 when I'm out of college. Whats the point of finishing it now when I'll never be able to drive it for the next 4 years?

Agreed...use the stock crank, recondition the rods, ARP rod bolts, forged pistons if you have the $$$. Should make for a stout 355 assuming quality machine work...

Exactly what I did. Granted I didn't have much money left due to dropping 2k in new suspension and 1400 for new rearend with 3.73 and new axles. Couldn't be any more happier. I went with lloyds le2 setup though. And you winning the lotto twice a year, sheesh I wsh I was that lucky lol. Before I keep babling, if it wasn't for this site I would have blown my money on parts I either didn't need or didn't perform.
