cam and gas mileage?
cam and gas mileage? im finally ready to put my 95 Z back together, and im looking at cam selection, only catch is i drive about 100miles a day round trip to work.
im obviously looking for the best power, but i also need this thing to be decent on the highway. i was looking at the caddy cam, id love to have a lil more power but would be content. this will be a DD only. prolly very limited track time.

what would you consider "good" gas mileage? i have the hotcam, bolt ons and a 2800 stall and get 15/20mpg's. its not the fastest thing but its somewhat fun to drive. i DD mine, drive to illinois all the time and had no mechanical issues at all. drives like stock but has the sound of a small cam which i like
m6 with 3.42s, ported heads and cc306 with the cruise control at 65 on a mail order tune no less got me 27mpg on a flat strech. 1100 mile road trip averaging about 85 mph and a few sprints to 120 got me a 23mpg average. I dunno if elevation has anything to do with it, but my 27 mpg run was through new mexico at 4500+ ft.

As far as a good DD cam that won't play a big roll in eating up gas too much, a
223/230 .565/.565 112 LSA or a 218 / 226 .540/.540 112 LSA would be a good choice, have good driveability and add on some decent power.

I did it for quite awhile with the gm846 (222/230) and le1's. Got about 25mpg on average through an a4 with 3.73 gears and 2800 stall at the time.
Have since gone way off the deep in with everything, mileage hasn't fallen off a whole lot on the highway but in town kind of sucks and lots of short trips kill it for sure.

and any of the above is better than anything ill get out of my truck.
the car was bought with 170k on it and had four spun rod bearings. i had planned on the car only being on the track.....it seems that this car will see more street time than my FI LS1.
my truck will no longer be in the pic and with me buying a new engine for the car now would be the best time to swap out the cam...
