Question Need some help with Spec clutch decision!

Alright, I have just about everything needed to start the A4-M6 swap. The only thing I lack is a clutch, flywheel, and a shifter. I have the factory flywheel, clutch and shifter out of my doner car but no intentions of reusing them. I was looking at the Spec 1 with their billet steel flywheel, and a pro 5.0 with a chrome WS6 Store ss. My question is, will a spec 1 be okay for my set up? Mods in sig. I've done some searching but all I can find is info on the spec 2,3,4 and all ls1 related. It says its capable of handling 400 at the flywheel and I'm concerned that I might be getting close. Will this one work or should I step it up to a stage 2, or just something different all together? Thanks in advance for any info or suggestions.

I would go with a Spec stage 2 and their Billet flywheel. Break them in for about 500 miles and it shifts like butter (I have the Stage 3). I have the Pro 5.0 and am not completely satisfied but it's better than the stock shifter.

I also have a Pro 5.0 but not totally satisfied after having the Hurst Billet plus in my last car. I would get the Hurst or maybe the MWG or what ever its called.
As for the clutch get the Spec 3+ and be done. I hear lots of good stuff about it and it has a better hp rating than the Spec 4

I don't want to overkill it. I use it as a dd and the hot cam is about all the power its going to see aside from a good set of cylinder heads down the road.

I have a friend with the Pro 5.0 and I thought it was really nice. Then again, I've never drove a car with the hurst billet plus. Wish I knew someone that had it.

The Hurst was smoother and more accurate IMO. I never missed shifts with it. Im not talking about the factory Hust shifter either incase there was any confusion.
The Pro. 5.0 is notchy and doesnt always center to 3rd perfect.
Hot cam and good heads can make some damn good power. Plus you may want to ugrade the cam someday or spray the car. Spec 2 will work but how much is the difference in price? Is it not worth the upgrade??

Yah Im talking about the hurst billet one too. the gold billet one. Like ac said the pro 5.0 is pretty notchy and hes right about it not centering perfect all the time, which is kinda crappy since its not a cheap shifter. I fixed that by putting stiffer springs in it its been great since then. I guess its all personal preference.

Where did you get the stiffer springs?? It would make me alot happier if it would just center to 3rd all the time. I dont mind the notchy feeling so much but hate the miss shifts.

I took them out of my hurst lol. You can ussually find a package of assortment springs at hardware or auto supply stores and you should be able to find a few stiff spring out of the bunch to work they may require cutting to size. Or you could add more shims to the bottom of the spring to stiffin it up. If you dont have ur hurst to steal the springs from it does take a bit of dickin around to find the right spring combo that will center it best but its easy just takes time taking the hsifter apart swaping spring then reassembling the shifter and testing it an so on but well worth it once its done an centers right.

My hurst is long gone. Damn I was hoping you had a part number, but I guess I could just order replacement springs from Hurst.

A spec 5 would be overkill. A spec 3 is nice and firm and a good choice even in a mild build. I know some guys with spec 3's in bolton cars and they love them. I had one and I liked the way it felt. It was stiff but not hard to drive. BTW it's the one Jarrett was talking about. It has 29 miles on it and works like a dream. PM me if you're interested.

The spec 2 is like 80 bucks more. I was just going to get the billet steel flywheel they offer unless anyone knows of a better flywheel for around the same price. The pro 5.0, chrome ws6 ss are pretty much a done deal. Was just confused with the clutch.

I have a brand new in the package round leather ball that was factory on the 93-98 cars. Will it fit on the ws6 ss? Does anyone know? I really don't care much for the factory ones. My doner car is a 97 T/A and has the factory shifter **** and it looks ridiculous, lol.

I have a B&M Ripper and once I got a good feel for it I never missed a beat with that..the T56 just gave up. Depends on how you shift I guess..lol

Go with that Stage 2..once you get Headers on you will be on the edge of the capabilities of that Stage 1.

I've got a spec 3 with probably 15k miles on it and it feels like a stock one as far as pedal effort, and grabs like no one's business!

I also have the aftermarket hurst "billet plus" shifter, and absolutely love it.

I've got quite possibly the best shifting T56 F-body in my area to boot..
