Sorry i never got back to this but putting the new one in is a pain. Its been over a year since i put it on and its never come back out or popped up. I remember it was a huge pain getting the clips to hook right. i took pics when i did it but my computer crashed so i lost them but i just made a quick 5 sec paint diagram of how the clips hooked from what i remeber. So i used a small screw driver to pick of the end of the clip to make sure it set right

oh the red is the door the grey is the hole where the clip hooks, and the black is the clip. just to be clear

3M weatherstrip adhesive is your friend. Use it carefully. It will stick ANYTHING to ANYTHING.

The felt pads with the metal bracket come off with one bolt. You must pull the door panel to get to them.

this statement is very correct we called this **** gorilla snot. replacing the sweep is very simple loosen the mirror or take it off, roll the window down pop it off. Put some 3M stuff in the sweep. be carful putting it back on making sure not to bend any of the clips when pushing it down

i guess i could of done the 3m stuff too, but im glad i know its a new piece of weatherstripping and i dont have to worry about it anymore. Its whatever you want to do, if it looks like your sweep is starting to rip or all the clips are broke i would replace but if its only the end just 3m it. one thing i do remember when i went to silicone it, i pulled it up some and more clips broke so be careful

Ok, so i have removed a total of 4 of these so far. the clips are metal, im not sure how you guys have broken ones? to get them off you can remove the mirror, roll the window down, press the strip away from the door and pull up. that seems to work the best.

the clips seem to be a little difficult to get in their correct location. the tab has to go into its proper slot or it wont stay in. you might want to make sure the fiberglass slots arent broken.

i think he's asking if the track inside the door is damaged, what do you do.

I think you can either go the 3M route and make it permanent or replace the door. I doubt it would be easy to work on the inside of the door.

Hey guys, sorry to raise this thread from the dead, but im trying to put on the drivers side outside weather strip on my 00 camaro. My old one was junked so i got one from rockauto. I understand how to put it on...i just cant get it to clip in. The farthest clip to the door handle side of the car goes in great...but the other clips just refuse. I saw someone saying they clipped it in with a screw driver, ive attempted by pressing on the hooks of the clips but its a no go. Ive had my door panel off twice now, trying to get it to work. I just gave up in a fit of rage a few mins ago and stuck gasket maker on the bottom of it...i knew that wouldnt wprk but i was pissed off haha so i gave it a rest....any tips on clicking these dudes in place????

I am with you on this, No broken clips, door is in good shap but I cannot get the thing to stay on. I an afraid I am going to bust the damn door I am pushing so hard. If I go the 3M adhesive I will bust off the clips. They only pop the weatherstrip up.

Bumping an old thread.

How many screws hold this thing on? I can't seem to get my old one off. Currently have three screws I have removed. Do I have to remove the glass adjusters?

It is not held on by screws. It uses clips as discussed/shown earlier in the thread.

Was the design changed in 1998? The part I got has metal clips, the part I took off my car is plastic and uses screws.

My door and my "new" piece I got from eBay

Could be, considering what was said in post #31. My 95s are not like that.

Looks like the design was changed. All you have to do is pull up with pliers on the plastic pieces to take them out and then the metal one fits in perfect.

Once I figured out what info was good/bad, its easy.

If you get an LT1 version, just remove the LS plastic clips. Also, there ARE screws, at least there were in mine that held the sweep down on my original 1998 part.

The mixup is probably related to this being an LT1 forum and that the suspected design change was not seen until the LS equipped cars. So people responding in the original thread were familiar with the old design and not the new. Had this been in an LS forum, people might have understood right away.
