I can actually play this game, wasn't too long before I got into the LS craze that I built this little forged 355 for a C4 that I had. Fully forged Scat bottom end, Speed Pro pistons, Comp custom grind, and a little set of Headmann headers. Was a pretty nice little power plant I just didn't like the car all that much so I moved on

some ppl prime the valley for theory's that it makes it slicker and easier for the oil to flow.

In addition if you open up the holes at the front and rear of the block (the front feeds the timing chain....nice big 1/2" holes), it helps get the oil back to the pan. I've also seen the vents put in, in the valley....our "spider" for the lifters kinda prevents it, but I'm sure someone could figure it out if they really want to.....

And it is proven to help get the oil back in the pan a little faster.....if it actually helps I couldn't tell you....

I used to use gliptal (spelling) to paint to inside of the case's on our drag bikes. It helped oil retrun and helped to keep the oil from wicking into the cast aluminum.

Painted and clear coated along with totally deburring the oil galley returns. The faster the oil get back out of the lifter valley the less heat you retain under the intake itself, essentially dropping intake internal temperatures. Old school SBC speed secret now you know, you can also paint the bottom of the actual intake itself to slow the transmission of heat from the oil spraying on the bottom of it.

deburring? is that where you plug the holes under where the lifters sit so the oil doesnt drip and hit the crank? that another trick i was told.

deburring is removing all the sharp edges, so that oil has a nice smooth path to follow. Another trick instead of painting, I've seen guys grind the entire valley smooth to a fine shine, looks like they polished cast iron.
