I'm glad to say that mine aren't quite that loud, but they are close. When I first start the car it is very quiet. Then once it reaches operating temperature i ticks slightly. I really notice the sound above 2-3k rpm

I got rid of my oil cooler when I did my motor swap.

old93camaro, the first number in oil weight only applies to it when its cold. I had been taught thicker isn't better, the lower the number the quicker it gets to operating oil weight, or so I had been told. I suppose then the lower the number the better it is, in regards to the first number.

Mine also get noisier as the engine warms up. I have NSA 7/16" Pro Mags with LS7 lifters set at 3/4 turn preload. I will be switching to a 10w40 or 20w50 oil to quiet it down. I have 5w30 in it right now and just less than 300 miles on the new engine

I have the opposite. Rockers are louder when cold, get quieter as it warms up.

Very inconsistent tho, and at times just doesn't make sense that they should be loud even when hot.

I just got done putting in new LS7 lifters, set preload at 1/2+1/8th to lock the polylock. Nothing is loose...

I do notice when the ticking is louder, the engine is not as smooth in the upper RPMs, but that could also just be exhaust resonance as well, as it really doesn't seem to be down on power...

This is honestly the first LT1 I have built that has this kind of 'issue'. I went from Comp Hi-Tech Stainless 1.6 NSA to Comp Ultra-Gold Aluminum 1.6 NSA (they are actually OEM'd Scorpion Pro-series, even come in the exact same type of box), then swapped out a set of Comp-R lifters for LS7s. Oh, I also went with TFS guideplates and pushrods. I even swapped out the rocker arm studs for some Comp Magnum series at the same time. It got better but is still noisy only on the drivers side.

Now, this is the first build I have done where I am using a beehive spring, in particular the Lunati BBC springs, and I am wondering if they are not causing some 'singing' to occur. Normally I go with a K-Motion K-800 springs with titanium retainers, Scorpion Race-series rockers and Comp studs, Isky adjustable guideplates, TFS pushrods and never have any noise issues.

I am wondering if the TFS guideplates aren't somehow adding to the noise factor?

This is a new 383 and I started out with SAE 30 weight non-detergent to break in the motor (first 500 miles or so), and I am running just dino-oil 10w30 until about 1000 miles due to all these valvetrain issues (and I had some leaking oil filter relocation hoses from Trans-Dapt, so wasting synthetic just didn't make sense). Since it is all back together and seems to be running ok with consistent power I will be switching to 10w40 Mobil1 and see if it makes a difference.

I changed to Valvoline 20w50 today and the noise totally went away! I was running Castrol 5w30. I also have increased oil pressure as well

Lucky for you... I have run 0w40 "German" Castrol, and 15w40 Valvoline diesel oil, it didn't change the loudness of my rockers when warmed up one bit.

Mine behave much like has been mentioned... they are quiet on a cold start, but once the engine gets good and warmed up (5-10 minutes after reaching operating temp) they start making some noise, and it's audible at idle but mostly loud between 2-3k rpms or so. It's also loudest on the driver side.. the guy who built the motor had a listen and wants to try different preload.

as of right now, the problem is gone. I guess i just needed to do an oil change or something. Also added a quart or rislone engine treatment that is designed to quiet noisy lifters and such

Mine was worst on the drivers side as well. When I drained that 5w30 as the eingine was hot, it came out like water, wayyy too thin. Before changing oils, I went from 2/3 preload to 3/4 preload.

As I stated, I DO have higher oil pressure now with the thicker oil. Its probably around 60 PSI cold idle and when cruising it gets up to 70, warm idle is around 50. Note: I do have a M-155 pump with GM white spring. Will this high of a pressure hurt anything?
