Currently buying a 93 trans am
I'm currently in the process of buying a 1993 trans am and was wondering if the motor could possibly be swaped into my 1998 firebird (6 banger )Also how reliable is the Lt1 engine it currently has 132k on it and the guy says he has taken care of it routinely.

It's 16 years old and has 132K miles, don't expect much. People have done the swap, but if you want reliable, replace all the wearable junk while it's out. The LT1s aren't bad, but there going to have typical old car stuff wrong with them because their old. If it's been taken care of, shouldn't be to bad.

if you are going to do a swap do your self a favor and put a LS motor in it, this is coming from someone who BUILT an lt1, If I had to do it again I would go LS all the way.

It really depends on preference.. Me, personally, I would like to stay with the LT1 platform to keep everything original, just for the sake of it. I'm not out to break any records. LT1's have proven to go really fast with room to grow, ei: rick intrau, tony shephard, etc. All it takes is the right combination and lots of money

i have a stock LT1 with 161k miles. flawless so far.
the trany is the only problem so far. it shifts hard/firm still while daily driving, but when i get on it, it gets to 5k rpms and wont shift. that and the purge canister have been my only problems.

why not just drive the 93 or you could always save up to put an ls into your 98. I love the LT1 also guys but I dont see the point to swapping a 93 speed density motor into a LS body "just to have a V8" seriously dude as long as the 98 runs well keep it and save up for a swap and do it RIGHT the first time, you will be happier in the long run.
