Default 95 ta running hot need help

Ive got a 95 ta and the fans went out last week, so i replaced the fans with stock oem cooling fans but the car still runs at 240 in town and hardly gets to 220-225 on the interstate. What else could be the problem? and also for some reason my computer wont communicate with hand held diagnostic tools either shut them down or just says theres nothing there.

Have you verified that the fans are operating properly?
They should come on at 226* low/235* high speed.

You also could have a clogged heater core, or a faulty thermostat, or even a faulty temp sensor.
Are you losing any coolant?

This is why you can't read any codes:

If you still can't read codes, check your cigar ligher fuse.

the guy at the shop told me that he couldnt read what temp they were turning on because he couldnt get my computer to communicate with his hand held. I guess ill start with the thermostat and see what happens.
