Default Help changing the rear main seal on a LT1

Working on a 95 LT1 in a Trans AM. The rear main is leaking. Ive done this job on a few LS1's. And Im wondering, it is the same procedure, right. I dont need to pull the motor or drop the oil pan. Just pull the tranny and converter and fly wheel, and the 3 in rear main comes out with a flat head screw driver, and I gently install the new one... Right.??/

Thanks,

Charlie

+1, same thing you're used to. The material of the rear main seal determines if you install them wet or dry. AFAIK, rubber is installed wet, teflon or whatever the later LT1 rear main seals are made of are installed dry.

Don't pull the little plastic thing off of the inside of the seal either, its a guide to help you get it on w/o tearing the edge or flipping the lip.

There are two designs available for the LT1 - the early design (rubber) and the later design (Teflon). Is one better than the other? Don't know...but I went with the later Teflon. It's designed to be installed dry (no oil).

silicone of some sort always works better just take ur time and put it on slow. Its better to be safe and not leak ever again cuz that job sucks, lol

Mine from GM was dry but has greese on the lip to seal it and keep the lip from getting messed up during install.
