Default 93 t56 into a 1995 car?

Hey guys,
I was wondering if there are any issues with putting a 1993 t56 into a 1995 car? The 95 is already a 6 speed car, he is just having issues with trans, and wants a new one, and I found a good deal on a 1993 trans. Please help?

It'll work. Is it a M29?

It should bolt right up. If it's a M29, It will be faster!

I would assume that its the M29, I thought that they came in all 1993 cars? They are faster because the gearing ratios are slightly different correct?

LT1 M29 T56 6-speed trans uses "Z06" ratios; (2.97:1, 2.07:1, 1.43:1, 1.00:1, 0.80:1, 0.62:1) vs. the standard LT1 T56 ratios; (2.66:1, 1.78:1, 1.30:1, 1.00:1, 0.74:1, 0.50:1)

So if it came with 3.42s then it will be a t56? Are there any visual differences that I will be able to tell whether its a m29?

AFAIK, 3.23's was the highest rear end gear ratio offered in '93.

2nd - 2.07
3rd - 1.43
4th - 1.00
5th - 0.80
6th - 0.62
Rear axle - 3.23

1994 and UP (MN6)

2nd - 1.78
3rd - 1.30

I'd rather have the taller 3rd gear ratio.

I guess you are going to have ask him what codes are in the Glove Box of that car..it's definately a 1993.

So basically what you guys are saying is to have him look in the glove box and get the rpo code, then figure out what rear-end was in the car right? But no matter what, this thing will bolt, and worst case scenario is that I just end up with a plain jane t56 like I have right now. If I get lucky I'll get one of the others with either a better 1st gear ratio or a better 3rd gear, correct?

Pretty much. What's the price you're picking it up for?

Thanks a ton for the help thus far guys. Just one more question. Were the m29 transmissions any weaker than the t56? (It appears the trans is an m29) Just this last question then I'll leave you guys alone, lol.

I don't see why it would be weaker. Yeah the gears are taller, but I don't see it being much weaker.
