Fuel pump on its way out??

How do you tell if the fuel pump is about to go out?? About 3 weeks ago I did the entire ignition system(plugs, wires, opti, coil) then it was running as good as it ever did.. then like 5 days ago the car felt like it was about to die off on me.. like as if it wasnt getting enough fuel or something.but it only happened for a few seconds..hasnt happened ever since. But now today I went to the gas station and the car wouldnt start.. it would crank but it wouldnt start! I could hear the fuel pump whine when I put the key on the on position but I wonder if its maybe on its way out

my fuel pump just took a dump couple days ago, car started to stumble and die like it was running out of gas with 1/4 tank left. watched the fuel pressure bounce all over during this. then after I got it running went to test fuel pressure and went from 40~ to 30psi at WOT. new pump is in, no more problem

Yeah Im going to have to.. I just took it for a drive again and while I was cruising at 30 the rpms go all the way down and boom the car shuts off while it is on the road.. while it shut off I steered hard(obviously cause it shut off) to the side of the highway..it is still there as we speak lol(this just happened 20 minutes ago) Hopefully I could get it to start because I dont want to have it towed

Yeap, turns out it is indeed the pump.. got it checked out and it is doing exactly as lt1won said..it drops down to 30 when I get on the gas.. time for a walbro pump maybe?? racetronix??
