Default blown head gaskets... upgrades???

my head gaskets are done. leaking compression into the cooling system. I have heard that these motors are somewhat prone to this with the factory gaskets and head bolts. what gaskets and head bolts should i use. i have some ARP head bolts from a gen 1 motor, can i use these with the lt1 aluminum heads?

I used some Felpro 1074's and had very good luck with them. Get the Heads milled while they are off.

Don't know about the Head Bolts.

The head bolts will work, I've used the bolts and the studs for a SBC on my LT1/4, they are correct.

Just make sure you know what type of bolts they are. Torque-to-yield or conventional.

Nothing really wrong with LT1 head gaskets, if you popped one, there is a reason. When a head gasket blows, you can read them and see what caused it. How to build Lt1/4 is pretty good book, you may want to pick it up. They have the torque specs in there, I used that book more then I did the factory service manual.

When you pull the radiator cap off how much air is being leaked into the system? Was it alot or just acouple bubbles here and there? Just curious for my own knowledge.

the block would basically create a steam pocket and the radiator cap would release pressure and all the coolant.

this motor is in a off road race truck, the radiator is a dual core dual pass 31x19 ron davis with dual fans in the rear of the truck. i bought the motor with 160k miles for 500 bucks and ive put over 1500 race miles on it since. pretty damn reliable if you ask me!
