Default Thinking about buying a 94...

It's a 94 Z28 with only 30,000 miles on it! It's an auto and was stored winters driven by an older guy. They claim it needs a tuneup and the starter is starting to go bad. They are asking $6500 for it. Is that fair? I was thinking a little less, KBB says $5200 in excellent shape. I am also worried the tuneup is not just a tuneup and may also include an optispark replacement. Is there anyway to tell this? Any info is appreciated...

Any opinions on the price or how to determine if it needs a simple tune up, or if there is an Optispark issue?

I paid 5300 for my 6spd z with 35k over the winter. fuel pump was starting to go but that was the only real issue with it.

I wouldnt go much over 5000$ and it would have to be pretty clean and running good. What is it doing to make them think it needs a tune up? Also they say the starter is going out is it grinding our just not working might want to check out the flywheel teeth to. Have them cover the cost of all the parts and labor to knock some off $ off the price.

You need to test drive it and also if possible bring a trained mechanic that can go over the cover thoroughly! You should try to bring down the price a bit... $5500 sounds ok!

I just paid $5500 for a super clean 94 Patriot Red hardtop 6spd with 159k, LS1 12" front brakes, 00-up SS rear spoiler, Cowl hood, 4.10's & ta girdle, UMI lcas & ta and 00-up 17" SS wheels with 275x40x17's and drove it 3000 miles from Cali to Maryland and I couldn't be happier with it.

My buddy just paid $4400 for a 99 LS1 w/150k on it

(this was targeted at 97Z28SS, not the OP)

For $6500 you could get an LS1

Thanks for the help guys.

Any thoughts on how to tell if Optispark is on the way out?

People who say autos suck, suck. Don't pay any attention.

$6500 is way too much for that car (especially if they say it needs maintenance). Just because it is low mileage, it does not make it more desirable or worth a lot more. You can buy 94s at less than half of that price all day long. There is just no demand for them to want to get that much.

i bought my 94 with 158k miles needing tires and brakes for 2900 and he drove it to my house from 100 miles away for nothing.

and theirs nothing wrong with an auto. they can cause havoc to other cars off the line. there just not as fun to drive is all. however having an auto with a cam and gears is alot easier to daily drive then a 6 speed with a cam and clutch. ask me how i know...

Z28mccrory I didn't want an LS1 powered car I don't like the way the front end on the 98 - up Camaros' look and guess what if I really want an LS engine I can put one in my 94. Contary to what you may think not everyone wants an LS1 car, I know I don't, I like the LT1s.

I bought my current car for 2k. I bought my 94 back in 01 for 6900. Unless it is super clean I would pass.
