The optispark can only go on one way. You don't need to bring the motor to TDC. Just make sure the cam pin/cam gear engages the correct slot on the optispark (it's the large slot of the cloverfield on the vented optispark, or the keyway on the non-vented optispark).

OP, since you have two different year LT1 Fbody's, you should put which year car you are working on in particular in every thread you start.

So when you say it started before, was this before or after the new opti? Did the opti sit completely flush against the timing cover when you put it on?

Any chance that you forgot to connect the opti harness or the connection for the coil and ICM? How about the three grounds that go to the coil?

i always feared putting in an opti wrong, but then again i always wondered how it could go on wrong. the only way it could go in wrong would be for it to be +/- 120 degrees off, no? in order for it to slip on, the three cam bolt heads have to slip into their respective holes. it's not like the bolts can slip into the keyway or something. so that means the keyway would have to be off +/- 120 degrees. the opti can't just be a little bit off, can it? what i'm getting at, is if the opti went in wrong, there's no chance at all the car would start, right?

Pretty much, mtedenajimenez. Mine started but would backfire/misfire like crazy. Turned out to be on wrong.

IMHO - any time I install an optispark moving forward, I'm going to remove the three male hex bolts that hold the cover on and hold onto the rotor itself while I line the optispark on. That way I know 100% without a doubt that the optispark went into the right slot.

assuming you hooked up all your wires right and the cam pin went into the right slot of opti (pic in link)...it should fire

http://shbox.com/1/opti_back.jpg

did you put on a AC Delco opti?

if answer is no....return it and buy a ac delco or delphi
