Your friend is not familiar with the capabilities of LT1 heads, period. They are FANTASTIC for porting.
Look at the picture of a stock casting, then look at this:
Those are my CNC ported AI 200cc heads. That's the reason we pay thousands of dollars for quality port-work.

He said there wasn't enough meat, maybe they have been worked on before. Or do you know the casting # of your heads? Maybe he has the thinner wall one. Even if that is the case and they haven't been worked before you can still do some nice porting on them

I have this 383 build. A friend of mine does CNC he said my stock heads and intake has alot more to go. Is it worth porting the stock heads if I'm keeping the same size vaules? He would do a full port job intake and EXG for only $75 a head. and $50 for the intake will I get good reasults? please some one answer that knows the stock heads.
IF it was my car I would send them to Advanced Induction then I would have
MoeHorsepower tune it.

This here generally states that you and you buddy both do NOT understand the art and science of porting...
If there is only gasket matching done to the heads, and your friend said there's not much left after that, or anything that will give you more than 5hp, your friend is stupid and you should delete him from your contacts list on your cellular device and never speak to him again when pertaining to your car.

Thats a funny quote. But his T/A runs 8's and his full lb dodge ram runs 10:80s. He just hasnt ported alot or LT stuff. But he has done good with the stuff he has. He hasnt never broke any thing he has ever sprayed... Even a motrised cooler. He is definatly setting up my NOS system.

I dont take advantage of freinds. Especially if he is crazy busy and can make a lot more $$ from big time clients. Thats "using" a friend. It's saying his time isnt worth anything to me. You dont go to a banker that is a friend and exspect him to give you free $$ do you? Or a car salesman and exspect a free car...

Well, this thread has gone downhill.
Back on topic, I had my stock heads ported and port matched to my intake, and I am very pleased. Put in Manley ss 2.02/1.60 valves, ARP studs, beehive springs, Comp Cams full roller rockers, all for less than a basic set of aftermarket heads.

If your friend has access to a flow bench, have him flow the current heads, and then we can tell if they are really only good for 5 hp more.
If he doesn't, then his advice (not to have him touch them) was good.
