Default cam swap...NEED HELP!

okay guys...got one i'm hoping you guys can help with. just got everything back together after the cam swap including the tuned pcm from madz28. well, the car runs EXTREMELY rich, like made me cry after driving it around the block. the computer also says the desired idle is 3188. it idles at 700, doesn't pop like i'd think timing would cause it to...so could it be in the tune?

its the ai 226/234 cam with the supporting mods

My Mail order tune from Ion Was way off. Ran rediculously rich. once I got it on the dyno to get dyno tuned I found out He never set up the tune for my 38lb injectors like I asked. Get a dyno tune I gained 40rwhp over the mail order one. Not sure whats with the Idle saying 3188? But around 750rpm is a normal ilde for cammed cars.

The desired idle on my stock tune, was also 3188, so that might not be the problem.

yeah the nearest dyno is 3 hours away and i don't think my eyes could handle driving it there. and yes, we re-read the computer and while the engine was running, the desired idle was 900, but when the key was on it was 3188 so i'm okay there. so you guys think i should get ahold of ion

What size injectors do you have in it? Have you checked to make sure the vac line is on your fuel pressure regulator? also check to make sure your temperature sender by the water pump is plugged in or not broke.

Put it on a trailer and tow it to the dyno, don't drive it.

ion seems to think my bosch sensors are the main problem...but the car does run ridiculously rich. i took it for a drive and went maybe 6 blocks...by the time i got back, it died in the parking lot. when i push the gas, it sputters and pisses around and pops OCCASIONALLY. any ideas guys? ion says the tune is fine so i'm basically screwed for a while

If you dont have a trailer rent a one from u-haul its like $50 a day. As long as you have a vehicle to tow it or can use a buddies or something.

You know what, I got my tune for 24#svo's and full bolt ons from ion and i'm pretty sure its a fucked tune. Driving it cold pisses me off, it idles like dogshit and is way rich untill it gets warm, wich is the tune without a doubt. And I just dont think its getting all the power it should by far. I'm doing a cc503 and 3.73's and will definately not be using him for the new tune. Not saying it's not a good tune after its warm for sure, but I just think theres no substitute for a good dyno tune.

To the op, I would say trailor it to the dyno with a uhaul dolly. If you did the swap clean and knew what your doing, and theres no valvetrain noise I would say its the tune.

I hear ya dude, I will never consider a mail order tune again, every cars different, and at the end of the day a mail order tune is just a guess.

Mail-order tunes in most cases are just a BASELINE to get the car drivable. In order to fully benefit, IMO, a dyno tune is always a necessity.

And FWIW, the times in my sig are on a mail-order tune, loaded one day before the pass was made. My car needs a dyno-tune BAD.

Yah for sure its a baseline tune, what I was staying is that Id never waste time and money getting another mail order after my experiance and then after the gains I got with a dyno tune.

It really wont change much, the computer will just compensate and probubly max out. So it might be even worse if anything at all. It just needs to go to the dyno one way or another.

why is it that most people run fine on a mail order tune but mine doesn't? that doesn't make sense? i shouldn't NEED a dyno tune just to be able to drive it, right?

Are you using new injectors or used? A stuck injector or two will cause a very rich condition.

If it is tuned for the 30#ers and you put the 24#ers back in, you'd run very lean - not something I'd recommend.
