Default Starting my journey to the darkside...

I'm crossing over...slowly

The Future

LQ9 short block (w/ LS1 oil pan, pick up tube, and windage tray)
L92 heads
Custom cam (223/231 .610/.617 113+4)
Patriot Extreme spring kit
L76 intake
Holley 90mm TB
TSP 1 7/8" headers

Shooting for an honest 450 rwhp with a nice meaty power band.

Made my first purchase recently. L76 intake complete with injectors and fuel rail...299.

Flame suit on...

Good luck with the build, hoping to swap mine eventually too. Good buy on the intake!

Why the LQ9? I would go LS2 personally since it's aluminum and they are still strong as hell. The fastest GTO in the country who I personally know is running an LS2 block. BTW L92 heads FTW. $1000 for a pair and they flow what 300+ish out of the box, damn! The L76 manifold seems real nice too, I believe they do not have a FAST available yet to fit those heads correct?

I think it's a smart move. My LSx buddies with less mods have same numbers it's frustrating. Can't beat the technology of the LSx's and within a year I will hopefully have a nice LS1 WS6 to focus my attention to

They really blow my mind especially when my buddies bolt-on LS1 Vette gets 31mpg highway.

I do still love the LT1 tho!

Only flame is that your cam is too small - LSX builds eat cams like nothing with all that head!

Should be fun, power is soooo cheap to build with that foundation

Someone explain to me that little dip in the torque at 4400RPM. My dyno chart does the exact same thing at 4400RPM as well.

Cheaper, plus I like the option of boring and stroking it out later on.

Try 650 a pair, assembled, sometimes even less new. You can get them for ~550 used. Yeah, 300+ out of the box.

L92 heads are very picky with what heads work well with them. It's been shown that smaller cams with a wide split work the best with untouched L92 heads. I could go with a little more cam to gain a little more top end, but my car is a DD street car and I love the power curve with this cam!

Wow that is unbelievable! I was looking at heads for the Goat and remember seeing $1000 pair assembled for L92's which I thought was a great deal, must be the CNC ported version or something.

From SDPC they are $450 a pair assembled. But you can find deals for them like this:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/sponsor-s...9-95-pair.html

I believe that deal is long gone, but you see deals for them all the time. And you can pick up low mile take offs for a reasonable price.

atleast your sticking w/ an iron block I know alum is lighter but you can't beat the sound from an iron block which to me would always be worth the weight. I've been thinking about changing my long term plans w/ my car lately too and think I'll keep it cam only and start building up an LQ9 myself aswell. then find another vehicle to put it in and change my focus on my Z to handling and do some AXing w/ it.

Hmmmm I still have time to think it over. I'm picking up an ltx block next week.......still really want an LSx for my procharger build

Good luch with it, but to be honest I wouldn't be happy with an LSx build unless it was making 500+ at the wheels, just my .02 though
