Exclamation Need Help!

I have a 96 LT1. Today when i started the car, it starts up then instantly dies? Next time i tried i had to hold the gas to keep it idling at 1000 rpm. Then after like 30 seconds (without moving my foot) It starts idling itself up then i let off the throttle and its idling good. But if i punch it in Park once the rpm is going down it will cut its self off. I also feel a decrease in power!

I got this code, but ive got this code before: MAF or VAF CKT Range/Perf.

So please help

i just started it up cold, the exact same thing. Picture this, i hold the throttle to keep it running at 1500, without moving my foot it raises itself up to 3000. I honestly think its the TPS, i have had this happen to me before but in a different form. Before when put it Reverse it would just cut off.

I need some help quick guy cause we are about to take it up to the shop and i have no internet access there.

Either the MAF sensor died or it is not getting the correct voltage signal. May have a break in the wire, it is spliced somewhere in the harness and is prone to coming loose. Don't remember off hand if thats the code I got when it happened to me. Check the 3 wires at the MAF sensor to start and if they are all good then I would say it is the MAF.

i dont understand how the MAF is causing problems? It controls the idle control? Could it be the IAC? (Idle air control)

Mass Air Flow Sensor calculates fuel mixture based on air flow into the engine, if it is not operating properly the car will not know how much fuel to add. Unplug it and see if it gets better for you.

ohh wow!!!! it actually worked! it ran much better with it unplugged. Despite the fact that it was running super rich! but it actually idled itself! So is this saying the MAF is giving improper readings?

Like I said in my first post it is not always the actual MAF sensor, it could be the wiring going to/from it also. That would be my first spot to look actually as the wiring is prone to seperating at the splice and it is cheaper to figure out than throwing a MAF sensor at it and it not correcting the issue.

12V on the pink wire, 5V on the striped one, and ground on the third is what you are looking for voltage wise. If all that is correct it is more than likely the actual sensor.

okay you know the drop down piece that catches water off of your boot that goes on the throttle body, well we cut that off and now we have had problems sealing it properly, I replaced the MAF but i felt under the boot and it opened back up! So we i guess are gonna staple it together, then glue it. Im sure having a huge hole at the bottom of intake boot would definitely screw things up! if its not that then im going with the TPS. and if its not that then im going with the IAC hahah. This blows
