Default LT1 head question...

Ok... So i tried to build this LT into a mean street machine. I had the heads and intake ported to the max...

LT4 intake and stock heads ported. At the time I started the build I didn't want to spend the money on a set of high end heads but since I've blown so much money on this bucket... may as well go all out.

What are some of the best heads out there (I was looking at patriot 195CC and AFR's 180) but I'm sure you guys have some other that I haven't even heard of. Also, what kind of gains will I be looking at on a 383 going from ported stockers to a set of after markets? Is it even worth my time?

Car is on the streets... will be sprayed occasionally at the street races.

Here's how she sits now so you know i'm not a tire kicker.

Not sure if it matters but thats a twin 58 mm throttle and by gains I meant realistically... Am I looking at gaining 20 HP 20 TQ or much more? (For $2000 i would hope more)

Dart Pro1s are a good setup, so are TrickFlows. Who did the porting? Because I've heard some pretty good things from AI. I know the new TFS 185 20* are supposed to support over 500 out of the box and being that you're looking to upgrade from LT4s I would look at those and get hooked up with a good port job on them.

R&J Competition engines in fort lauderdale. That guy does wonder work and I wouldn't let another shop touch any of my engines.

And how much better are the ones you listed compared to ported stockers? What kind of gains are potentially there to be gained?

What are you pushing at the crank now? I know some of the guys on this site are making some good power out of LT4s.

Don't know... just reassembled the car from getting the frame/suspension powder coated. Motor is still on an engine stand so I don't have any numbers yet.

I am not 100% sure (its been some time) and my knowledge of motors is fairly limited but i am pretty sure we replaced everything and anything and I am fairly certain it doesn't have the stock hydraulic roller lifters.

Well, I was wondering if it was a flat tappet, solid roller, or hydraulic roller. They came with hydraulic rollers you could have changed everything and still be a hydraulic roller. The reason I ask is, I'm trying to guestimate were your current power levels are to see what heads would help. Because of the LT4s raised ports, they flow very well when ported. AFR has an LT4 style head. However, if you were to use the TFS 185 20* heads, I'm pretty sure you would have to use an LT1 style manifold.

The Advanced Induction 215cc CNC Trick Flows are the best out there IMO. You can meake some serious power with them and their work quality is second to none. Great guys to deal with too. Check them out:

93Z... the motor is a LT1 out of a 94 corvette, not an LT4. I just purchased the LT4 intake.

quick 95... I looked at the heads you posted. They are $2495 - Complete, Assembled, & Ready to Bolt-On. If I am roughly 525 HP at the flywheel what would these take me to? This is just a fun street car. So if It will bump me up crazy numbers then I could do that but if I'm only gaining 20 HP then its not worth it in my opinion.

Oh, I thought you had the entire LT4 top end! Well the TFS GenX 195s are a great head but in your application they would drop the compression because of the 62cc chamber. I was talking to another guy on the site who's running (Ported) Dart Pro 1s and he's got about 540-545 at the crank.

I'll just ask my motor guy when I get back to Lauderdale. I believe he said I would be in that range as I sit now... I'm just going to ask what kind of gains I can get by going with different heads. Like I said, if I'm only getting 20-25 HP then screw it. If I'm getting 40+ then I'll spend the money. For the $2500 for a set of heads, I could spend that money on a LSX for one of the my other cars.

Or $1300 on an assembled set of TFS GenX 195s.

Those $1300(+ AI porting) heads are what quick95lt1 was talking about. AI advertises up to 560 SAE corrected hp w/Hyd Roller "and in excess of 600hp with more aggressive valvetrain packages and appropriate supporting modifications"

well then thats certainly something I will have to look into and ask my guy if it goes well with my build. I would love to be around 600 HP naturally and add a progressive kit to it.

I hope all works out, but if you pull 600 na, you need to post that dyno sheet and mods so others can see what it took to pull those numbers from an na LT1.

will do... I'll put up pictures if anyone actually cares? I have pictures of the entire build, a list of all the parts back at my house in fort lauderdale, and pictures of all the work to my el camino.
