please re-read my post:

the post i quoted made it seem as though just slapping a cam on an otherwise stock LT1 was going to make 80 more rwhp
again, no bone stock LT1 will gain 80rwhp from just a cam swap alone. no boltons, or head work added. just a cam

plus, the word "stock" is very subjective, especially on the internet. when i mean stock heads, i mean as cast from the factory. some people claim stock heads, but really mean ported factory castings

I am talking about about bone stock untouched heads w/ cam and bolton's, such as headers/exhaust/cai puttin down 330whp+ all day. And le2(ported stock heads)/ cam cars on stock shortblocks puttin down 400whp+.

You guys are arguing over definitions, and both are right.

He is correct in that an LT1 is not going to put 330 to the wheels cam only(in the exact sense) with the hotcam. He is considering cam only as no headers, tune, cai, etc(however silly that may be to do).

With the hotcam and all the supporting bolt-ons though, leaving the heads untouched, it can be done. That is what is usually considered "cam only", but its really "cam plus bolt-ons", or "supporting mods" if you want to call them that.

Both builds are "cam only" depending on who you ask. I don't see what the argument is over .

I don't see what the argument is over
originally, i was trying to post results to confirm the performance of the LT4 hotcam/heads package as this is what i have on my car (well, bone stock LT4 motor, hotcam, tune). i claimed 344rwhp, and someone posted that those #s could be reached with a "cam only" LT1. however, they didnt specify that it would also take supporting mods (ie, cam + full boltons), while alls it took my LT4 was the hotcam/tune. he made it seem as though the LT4/LT1 heads were no different in the power levels they achieved with the hotcam

this is why ive been beating the whole "cam + boltons" debate to death. i should have just made it simple and said:

LT1 + hotcam + boltons = 340rwhp
LT4 + hotcam = 340rwhp

sorry if its been so drawn out

sorry not trying to argue. Like puck said there are to ways to look at cam only! I know this is not the hot cam, but check this out from back in the day.

Here's my results

I have a HOT cam and stock heads. My WS6 ran 12.4@111. I have SLP shorties into the stock y-pipe and cats. Passed MD emissions easily back in the day, actually blew better than when it was stock!

My Dad ran 12.2@113 in his Comp TA with the HOT cam and LT4 heads/intake. His dynoed at 375 about 10 years ago. His was SLP mids and no cat.

Both cars had 4.10 gears and the runs were done at MIR a long time ago.
