Default Is it worth it?

So I've got a chance to pick up a TA cheap, but here's the stipulation.

My buddy has a 94 TA with a LS1 front end. The car has a salvaged title for being in a fender bender and the damaged was more than the car was worth. It does have a Ram Air hood on it also.

Well the motor has around 160K and the underside of the body has a lot of rust. I believe the car was a flood car.

My buddy is wanting to get rid of it and wants 2,000 for it, if he can't sell it he wants to part it out. Well he is not very mechanically inclined. I mentioned to him that I want the car and would be willing to part it out for him and just use the money I get from parting it to pay him for it.

I basically want just the motor and rolling chasis. I would strip the whole interior, take off the HVAC controls, no heat, no AC, no power steering, strip the interior, and sell the 4L60E in favor for the TH350 in my garage.

I want to make a race car out of it and see how fast I can go on a VERY small amount of money.

Would it be worth doing this? What do you guys think?

How badly flooded do you think it was? If the engine is clear, and you're going to strip it anyway, I might do it. But not for $2k.

Hey:

I would do it , but part the motor out as well, but keep the newer frt end and put a Lqx or lsx in it and bottle the crap out of it.

I would try to get the price dropped to at least 1500 that way it gives you more room to part it out and not worry about making the full 2 grand.. But before you do that i would get the car on a lift and check to see how bad the rust is, is it just surface rust or is it deeper and how much would it cost to repair any damage, you don't want to part this thing out to find out that your tryin to builg a rust bucket..

I'd pass on it. You can find a more solid LT1 car with less miles for 2 grand. You just need to have the money on hand and be ready to buy when the opportunity arises.
