Default MSD coil good or bad?

Ive heard that from some the MSD coils can fry the opti. Im replacing my opti tonight and have an MSD coil and a new one from advance in the garage.

Should I just replace the MSD coil with the stock replacement and just sell it for couple bucks? Ive heard of guys running insane amounts of HP and fast ET on OEM replacement coil and opti. I just dont want to replace the opti again because the MSD coil might be the problem.

Thanks guys.

I don't think the problem with the msd coil is that it fries the opti. It is not worth the money over the stock one as they are equal lin performance. As far as an msd box, I have used one for 8 years and replaced the opti once after the water pump "shat" on it. To remedy that put an electric water pump in the cam driven one's place to help there.

Mine never killed the opti, but from what I hear there are no gains over the stock one.

They don't fry the opti. That's a myth.

If you provided some info on your car (like year), that might make a difference. The pre 96, dual connector coils are not as good as the 96 and up single connector ones. So, the early cars might benefit from a hotter aftermarket coil, where the later models ones are virtually as good as aftermarket.
