Double Roller Timing Chain.....
I have a '96 vette I'm putting a cam in. I want to install a Cloyes 3145 DR timing set. I have read of clearance issues with this chain on '95's. I'm changing the water pump to a Mezerie 55 gpm electric pump so the water pump drive will be removed. Do any of you know for sure whether or not the double roller will work on a '96 LT1 without clearance issues? Thanks

Thanks,
Is this because of the reluctor ring for CPS? Can't I get the tune modified to do away with the CPS? Would that eliminate any clearance issues?

You will also need to rid yourself of the long OBDII crank hub in favor of the shorter 93-95 crank hub, and delete the CPS (which can be tuned out) entirely. I recommend the 95 year timing cover for such a setup.

I got the chain on and it appears it does not hit the cover anywhere. I just bolted the cover on without the gasket to see if it hit. I will have to get a new shorter hub though because of the double roller gears. Where can I get a shorter hub? Any links?
Thanks to all for your input!

Keep in mind the difference in hub length is very small, so it won't look like a huge difference.

obd II hub is shorter, isnt it?? obd II hub + ring should be the same length as the obd I hub, so if you dont have the ring on the obd II hub, its a little shorter... i put them side by side and thats what i got from them

On a 93 LT1 would I be able to do the same thing, I have a pre reluctor motor but I was looking into doing the double roller chain like the LT4 instead of the one chain on the LT1.

That's right. If he gets a 93-95 hub, the alignment will be even worse. Most of the DR crank gears are thicker than stock.

Got a little accomplished today. Installed a freeze plug in the timing cover to seal up the wp drive gear. Also put in new seals. Put the CPS sensor in to just seal up the hole. I'm having it tuned out. Removed the reluctor ring to aid in getting the hub in the correct position. Got the cover, hub, and damper installed. In the picture you can see it lines up very well with the idler. I ground off about 3/64 of an inch so it would bottom out on the crank snout and also hit the lower timing gear. The OE damper looks to be in excellent shape so I'm reusing it. I got the china wall dimpled to aid in stopping intake oil leaks. It's going back together slowly but surely.
