The easiest way is to use a splice-type fitting. They are blue in color and let you clamp onto an existing wire. There is a fuse called Ignition in the fuse box under the hood. I just went underneath and clamped on there.

the only downside to that is you are putting a lot of draw on one wire. This is why i suggested it having its own place on the fuse block so that you do not burn something up. But you can do it however you want i have just seen cars catch on fire due to overloading wires.

If you are using the Ignition On fuse to activate the relay, there is very little draw on that line. That is the whole point of using a relay, which gets its high current straight from the battery. And I agree, not using a relay is requesting the God of Hellfire to visit your vehicle and rain his wrath down upon it. Just be sure and have comprehensive insurance with zero deductible.
I have relays on my EWP, fuel pump and methanol injection system. And the second fuel pump relay circuit is already drawn out.

So we installed the pump and wired it into the old air pump relay. Apparently the smog pump isn't always operating, so DO NOT do this! We ordered a fuse tap and will be using one of my accessory fuses like cruise control.

So in conclusion, you only need the relay kit if you don't know wiring. Luckily, I had some people to bail me out on that part and it only cost the price of a relay and fuse tap. About ten bucks I think.

Yes the pump is only on during start up. Using the smog pump relay is just to have a location and the prongs for it already in place. To utilize this relay you would have to remove all the wiring from the relay that goes to the smog pump and wire in new once that will always work when the car is running.

which is pretty much what i said. the hot that is there is only a momentary hot, so it needs to be replaced. the hot going out needs to be removed and the one for the EWP put in its place
