Are you referring to an adjustable torque arm?

they help but unless you're making a decent amount of power and coming out of the hole hard (decent size stall or dumping the clutch pretty heavy) you won't see much of a gain if any honestly

If you race the car in any way shape or form an ADJ. TQ arm is needed. It allows for adjustability and that in turn results in traction. Even on a stock car, it will allow you to put more of the power to the ground....so much that street tires won't be any good....

so torque arms make more power, or they hurt traction, or both?

I think he meant they transfer more power to the ground, rendering the street tires useless (or even more useless).

I think... lol

well let's see what his mod list is currently, goals, and intended usage. the 300-500 bucks for a TQ arm could be better spent elsewhere depending on his answers

Most people could replace their now 12+ yr old shocks and get more traction benefits than a tq arm.

I would spend that money on a good set of rear shocks and LCA relo brackets.

comp 3 ways are nice and cheap

plus if the guy doesn't even have a decent set of tires all the suspension in the world won't go too far

Yep. Get a good tire on it and if it still wont hook, find out why.

In my case my car wouldnt 60 for **** because the rear shocks were SHOT. It would squat worse than anything youve ever seen.

When it squats down that low in the back the LCA angle gets fucked up just as if you had a lowered car and it actually lifts UP on the rearend instead of pushing down on it, and the tires.

New shocks, and lca relo brackets Im expecting will improve the 60 greatly. The shocks will keep the suspension geometry more acceptable on launch and transfer the power in to forward motion, instead of the squat. The lca relos will further help keep the suspension geometry in tact as well as change the instant center to help lift up on the nose of the car, and drive it forward out of the hole.

Well for us 6spd guys..when you get that Torque Arm off of the Tailshaft Housing it's becomes alot less annoying to drive..the Shifter doesn't feel like it wants to go through your hand. That and you won't break that Housing, it's a pain to fix.

ACTUALLY, they keep the rear axle from rotating about the ring gear whenever ANY power is applied. They're a suspension component, much like the upper links of a 4 bar set-up.......

A Torque Arm adds 150hp at the wheels..you don't even want to know what a Panhard Bar will do.
