Can fuel pumps overheat?
I think my fuel pump is going out. When i cruise on the highway for about 30 minutes my car starts misfiring and bogging horribly. However, when the car cools down all of the symptoms disappear . Im 100% percent its not ignition related.
So i thinking that the fuel pump is overheating or on its last leg. Im going to run a fuel pressure test on it tomorrow. Any thoughts?

Ive ran out of gas before. I think it may be my 02s... A zip tie fell off and i dragged a o2 wire for a few miles.

Well I imagine you would have to run out of gas atleast a few times or be stupid enough to keep trying to crank it while the tank is empty for it to do any damage. Everyone reading this, do not run out of gas! Its bad!

If a pump is going out, it will be working harder than normal and can overheat (even if you have lots of gas). Seen it several times. Let it sit and cool off and it goes again. A pressure test will verify.

I'm pretty sure my 4 month old Racetronix/Walbro pump is shot. What is the deal with these damn pumps taking *****? Is there a reason or are they just poor quality?
I have similar issues to you OP and ends up my fuel pressure is way low making it a fuel related issue so I would go check your fuel pressure, sounds like it's probaly that.

How bad was the install of the harness? I was thinking about doing that when i change the pump out.

the wiring is at least 10 years old so take that into consideration before just replacing the pump because its likely you will be doing it again in a few weeks. once you check the fuel pressure primed and when running you will know for sure. mine is also losing voltage and after tracing it back found some bunt up wire. near the relay.

My first Racetronix died in a day. I will never use them again after the customer service I had with them. Had I known they are no longer a sponsor on CZ28 I would have never made the purchase. Luckily my local vendor stepped up for me and made things right.

The harness took about 20-30 minutes to install. Easy to read instructions and everything is included. I even went with the upgraded ground wire and nuts for added security.

Idk what the deal is with the Walbro pumps failing on you guys. I have a walbro 255 in line on my DIESEL truck (they're not even rated for diesel) and it runs 68psi CONSTANTLY and has been on there for almost 2 yrs. One of the best fuel pumps I've ever used.
Maybe the in-tank ones are different?

I've always heard that overheating is one of the primary reasons for pump failure on our cars.
I've been considering the racetronix kit. Their customer service sucks? Are there any quality alternatives?

Also, over heating is a big killer of fuel pumps.

Until I read this thread, I had never heard a bad thing about Racetronix.
My Autozone replacement pump recently failed in my car after a couple of years. I want to say the brand was Wagner, but I'm not sure. My car has been on jackstands since I got it out of storage a few years ago. We've been starting it and letting it run 1-2 times per month. Maybe that's not enough use. I wish I had gone with the Delphi pump from O'Reilly's, but I had already paid for whatever Autozone stocked.
