i think its a press in key for the hub. my other motor didn't have one it just has a slot where you could press in the key. does anyone know how to remove it?

it should be sitting right in the slot, a few taps with a screwdriver should pop it out

It's called a Woodruff key, and it should just pull out. Don't lose it. It's shaped like crescent, so tapping on one end will cause the other end to rise. If it won't pull out, once you get one end up in the air you can pry it out the rest of the way with a screwdriver.

Take a pair of wire cutters. Pinch the key and gently use the cutters as a lever against the edge of the crank snout. The key will come right out.
