what does this thing do exactly? is it really needed?

Good luck ever getting the system bled without it.

I'd like to know if anyone has tried to delete it before as well, and how that went.

Do not remove it! Only way for steam to get out of the heads. You will get hot spots in the rear cylinder if you remove it.

i just have a filter on mine but its just a track car, ill find out when i do the build if it caused any problems

WTF? He's talking about the cooling system. Not the CCV system...

well i wasnt planning on deleting it really, i just didnt know how it worked, mine doesnt look like it seals off perfect. so i didnt know if i would loose fluid out of it or what would happen

don't most aftermarket heads not have provisions for the crossover?

LT1 specific heads do have the provisions.

I am running a 6AN line from the back of the cylinder heads back to the intake. Much easier to take on/off whe you need to pull the heads
And improves coolant flow and reduces the temperature varience from front to back on the heads.

I was going to say, the last couple times I pulled the tube that connects the heads in the back I had coolant in my lines, not air, lol!
