Default hypertech to tune supercharged lt1?

so I recently purchased a supercharged lt1 car and it came with a hypertech tuner the person I purchased it off said it was used to tune the car. After getting the car to run my brother and myself both feel as though the tune is off simply for the fact it doesn't seem to be that faster to the point where I think a stock lt1 is faster anyhow my question is could you even tune a supercharged lt1 with a hypertech? (which I doubt highly)

Not sure what Hypertech all has for tunning stuff but if its that usless handheld thing with 3 or 4 buttons no you wont be able to tune the car with it. Those things are junk.

Just say no.

Do you have anymore info on the car? What type of supercharger? What's the model number? Stock heads/cam? Manual or auto? Stuff like this helps greatly.

its not right. u need to send out the pcm and get it tuned to your setup. u will need to know as much as possible about the parts u have before sending it in, if u want it close. mail order tunes work great tho, from my experiences. good luck

Mail order tunes are a base starting point if your cheap or cant get a dyno tune. There hit and miss since it really just a guess at getting the tune right every car is different. For a car with this sort of mods Id say a dyno tune is a must to get the most out of the car.

i wish you people actually knew what the situation before you started giving advice. First of all, hypertech does custom tunes on the handhelds, just like everyone else. It is the same as a mailorder tune. Did anyone bother to ask if this was the situation before you tell the guy to waste money he might not have to? I would say call hypertech and find out if they can verify the tune with the handheld or if its just a plain generic one. I know for fact you can call hypertech and give them your list of mods, including forcewd induction and they will make a tune just like anyone else and send you the tool so you can load it.

Stock engine? How much boost? Regardless I would never trust a mail order tune or Hypertech "custom tune" on a blown car. Never never never ever.

Well I can tell you for a fact, back when I first supercharged my car, This was like in 96, before I started tuning. I had a Hypercrap, called them up, told them of all the mods and they sent me a cartridge that plugged into the hypertech with the tune for the supercharger...A couple of runs down the highway and broke all of the ringlands in the motor..But maybe they are better now...

Exactly. Back when it was either Hypertec or DelTech I don't recall ever seeing a successful blown application on a stock LT1 engine that had any sort of longevity. Even those which were boosted at an "acceptable" 7.5psi.

Hey sorry for the lack of info guys but as far as I knew when I bought the car the only modification was a cat back and a paxton sn-2000 blower kit I did research this blower and apparently its not the best and it only really boosts to a max of 5psi the previous owner said something about it might have a had a slightly hotter cam but I have no evidence of this so I'm just guessing he was talking out of his *** and I'm gonna try and give hypertech a call and see if actually has a custom tune on it but I figured If its just a crappy one for the tuning for premium fuel and tuning the speedo for a gear change that its probably not helping the car because at this exact moment the car drives fine but it just doesn't seem any faster than a stock lt1 in fact the opposite it feels slower but just wanted to make sure that hypertech didn't have a tuner that could tune for something like this car with out it having to be special ordered

good lord hypertech is not even that great for stock cars.

You need a full dyno/street tune for any kind of FI.

It does not matter if hypertech does custom tunes like other mailorder tuners, your missing the point! A mail order tune is only good enough to get the car to the tuner or on a dyno... A hypertech chip on a boosted car is even worse and just asking for trouble. The fueling is almost never right on these and the timing as often too far advanced. A full hands on/ dyno tune is madatory for forced induction setups imo!!! Been there done that, just as moehorsepower posted.

If it was my car I would yank the blower off, sell it and concentrate on either bolt-on or heads/cam. When going forced induction there's just always the factor of having to take EVERYTHING into consideration from the oil pan to intake intake if you want it to give you reliable power for a long time.
