Uhhh I would say about the same as a 350, or a 353 or a 358 lol

5 cubes doesnt make a heck of a lot of difference.

That being said there are 355's in the 10s all motor.... With 6 speeds.. In "street" cars, not gutted tuna cans.

With the stock GM parts being of higher quality than half of the aftermarket rotating assemblies available, I just left mine at 350, gave it a fresh hone, resized the rod big ends, used ARP rod bolts, new GM bearings, new GM rings, and I'm revving it to the PCM cutoff at 7100. See my sig for performance in a 3800 lb car.

Speed pro forged pistons, stock crank cut 10/10, resized stock rods with ARP hardware and clevite bearings through out.
Car makes well over 400rwhp, runs mid 11s so far at 119.xx NA. I spin it to about 6800RPMs

If you were to consider a SR cam the 355's have really done quite a lot. But any LE/AI new stuff is going to move. I wouldnt ditch the LTX platform just yet.

I don't have a 355 but i used to..... real strong street motor... hydro roller.... some booty stage II heads ported by a monkey....

SRP pistons, eagle 6" h-beams, stock crank..... ported manifold, 58mm throttle body, hooker long tubes and 4" mufflex exhaust.... stock water pump, 1.6 roller rockers, cam was a 236/242 .556/.576 112lsa hydro off the shelf roller.... compression was 11.75:1.... ran on pump gas just fine..

With a T56 it put down 422 RWHP and ran 11.82@119 all motor..... I put a TH400 in it and it lost 50 RWHP down to 375 RWHP but ran 11.6@117 on motor and 10.40@131 on a 150 shot... and I could drive it back and forth to work....

What causes a completely stock bottom to fail if so many people are making big power with a stock crank and rods? the bearings?

Yes, plus ovalized rod big ends (which may stem from inadequate clamping by the stock bolts ??) Mine were as much as .0015" out of round, just from a stock LT1 in an Impala that probably never saw 6000 rpm.

Stock cranks kick @ss! A local, nationally known, racing engine builder, tells me that GM cast cranks are far superior to ANY aftermarket cast crank available and he uses them on his budget spec drag motors putting out up to 600 hp that get torn down and freshened every two or three seasons, and he cannot recall ever finding a crack in a GM crank. He has ceased using any other cast crank because they typically are found cracked upon teardown.
