LTx gurus what is max hp u think block will handle?
I would say a two bolt block with the three center caps being spayed up to about 800hp. Then the front cap should be splayed. I recently saw my front cap hammered so it is time for a front splayed cap and billet rear cap.
your engine builder ,tune up, & your machine work will determine your longevity of your parts and your block

got my 3400 turd running 9.0 with the most violent of the 3 power adders...

purple how has your turbo experience been overall? The funny rumor on yellowbullet.com was that 1 out of 10 turbo cars run, yet all the people I see with turbo's are running insane numbers with them.... So you as an LT1 guy how would you rate the turbo experience? I always wanted a turbo car since I saw my first sbf turbo car (mustang) in 1997 run a 9.0 at the track...
I mean as a nitrous guy i go thru plugs like nobody's business yet I hear about dudes running mid 8's running the same plugs for two racing seasons with their turbo cars... Nitrous guys always burning up pistons trying to get that "perfect mixture" while turbo guys are only hurting transmissions or top fueling their tires 200' out.... LOL
I'm sure there's some stuff to be learned here with your experience.
outlawz, telling the truth it seemed like it was going to be easy at first, but i was killing all kind of transmission parts. i had a turbo 350 when i shot the gm high tech article. the first part that broke was the driveshaft, then the transmission tailshaft i so called had it rebuilt by a local transmission shop(******* clowns) and they told me that it would hold 1500hp. the first pass it didnt make it pass the 60ft mark before it ******* broke. madman contacted the trans builder and gave him a few choice words. they fixed it and i sold it to a guy that run nitrous he been running the **** out of it. i switched to a turbo 400 next. i broke second gear @ least three times. i ran a 8.59 @ 171 without no second gear just to be in the super chevy show @ state capitol raceway. i then switch to a glide built by ptc and i have been doing well with thw setup ever since. i bought a msd opti & it took a crap on me after 4 passes. madman decided lets put a crank trigger on the car and it worked out great. i was able to check my timing so i could make sure it was dead on the money, i still found time to drive on the street every now and then. it was a long journey but i swear i never wanted to quit. i thought i was going to break big ricks record but i decided to switch up and start running 1/8 mile outlaw 275 dragradial. i ran a 5.53 135mph @ the 1/8 with a 1.46 60ft. doing this with a 383cid lt1 weighed 3500lbs. i know the key items were the turbos, but i have to give credit to jesel and afr they both were my two key parts for making horsepower. i never had an issue with my valve train components. i would say this was a big team effort i couldnt do this with out madman, ruth, nick, brady, tommy, shane and the thunderracing crew, shay and the big man upstairs, if i can help anyone on this board please feel free to contact me. this was just some problems i occured along the way.

You very rarely hear of a "block" failure here on ls1tech. The failure is usualy rod bolt, rod, rod bearing or related to some other moving part.... I cant recall any block failures, but I also cant recall the last time someone tried to make 1000 to 1500 rwhp.
maybe if i had second gear i could have got close to the record, but thats a big maybe. when i heard the engine zing up spit, pop, and bang i thought oh no hear we go. when it went to 3rd it was hauling the mail. we all made a decesion to lets see if we can make two more passes so i could finish the race. man that day was crazy we had to move the rev limit up a couple hundred and let it rip. it was a lil challenge, but i had a the best help with me that day. dj on the tuneup, nick on the ams ,and madman was making sure everything was in order.

i use to run nitrous on my 408cid lt1, but nitrous put such a shock on all your parts, if you are going to run a 300 shot you better make sure you dot all your i's and cross your t's. your window for error is small.

So with 4 bolt splayed mains on a 383 would a 300 shot be safe for the block? Assuming everything else is set up properly
I typically run a 350 shot and that was the shot i was running when i went 5.76@123 in the 1/8th mile.... 9.06@153.8 in the 1/4....
Purple thanks for the background story on the car. We hadn't heard much of the details on it on here....
See I'm lucky in one way as I think it will be easier for me to switch to turbo. I already have a BIG fuel system, I already have an 8.50 cert cage, My suspension is completely done and the car cuts low 1.3's with ease. My TH400 is from ATI and has at least 50 low 1.3's on it without a failure. My rearend is a Moser 9" with all the bells and whistles, 35 spline axles and a spool... Denny's nitrous driveshaft..... And the motor is VERY STOUT. AFR 227's, single plane, solid roller, jesel shaft rockers, .704/.685 lift on a 114.5 lsa cam... FAST XFI crank trigger, rear mount dist and a HVC II coil... Everything is top of the line and the motor is a one off custom deal.... Basically the only thing keeping me from turbo is a set of low compression pistons to replace the 12:1 pistons we have now and a turbo cam. My entire setup will easily convert over once the pieces are in place....
basically I don't have to start from scratch. The only puzzle pieces missing are the turbo, pistons and the associated turbo pieces.. Tranny failures aside I think my ATI TH400 will hopefully be ok...

here's how my car leaves now...

I also have a 2000 hp fuel system, moser 9'', th400 on the way, 383 with afr 227's, jesels, solid roller, single plane, rear mount distributor, hvcII, F.A.S.T., crank trigger, all top of the line bottom end with custom turbo pistons
I just need a bigger turbo setup once i get the car sorted out. Its only got a T6 74mm on it right now
get the car sorted out with the small turbo first and it wont be hard when you put the bigger turbo on. im glad to see you spent $$ on your heads and valve train. i hear a lot of guys let people tell them they dont need a 220 or 227cc head because the motor will not be responsive. i wish they had 18* or 15* lt1/lt4 heads. i no what are the key parts a lt1 need to make serious power.
