Default need help relocating oil filter

i just installed some ebay stainless steel headers and the drivers side is too close to where the stock oil filter is to fit a filter in there. theres only about 2 inches in one of the areas.. think i can just put a oil filter relocation kit on there and be good? my local shop was having a hard time finding a kit i believe the stock filter threads are metric right? they can order a mr gasket but its standard thread. anyone know of a kit that works on these lt1s? thanks a lot.

Yea all you have to do is take the it off ,grind the top of the bolts/studs that go into the block so the filter will screw down and cap where it goes into the radiator and waterpump. Here's a picture that might explain it better http://shbox.com/1/oil_cooler.jpg

That looks like a great way to lose oil pressure and break something expensive.

What I am saying is that if one of the hoses clamped on there where the filter should be
(You know ... right after the pump where all the pressure is)
happened to come loose or melts ... you're absolutely screwed.
Having soft hoses run next to headers where there was limited clearance to
begin with makes it that much more risky IMHO.
If the headers don't clear a standard (or even a shorty) oil filter, don't use the headers.

I'm sure 1000 people will reply telling me they're doing it and not having problems.
Great ... congrats. Don't come crying to me when you find out what happens to an unlubricated rotating assembly.

he is right, i installed a set of those headers on a camaro for a guy here locally, and we just eliminated the oil cooler all together, and put standard hex head bolt in to replace the ones that were installed, and oil filter clearance is fine then. Now we also had clearance problems with the steering shaft and no 1 primary. As well as the headers rested on the body just a bit, and (with stock k-member and eurethane mounts) caused some horrible vibrations as well. I am curious if you have any of these problems, if you are using rubber mounts. Please let me know if you dont mind. All in all the headers, for the price this guy said he paid, are still worth the hassle compared to the price of kooks. I am thinking of putting a set on my car when i install my big inch lt1.
Hope all this helps.

I used a Canton Racing adapter where the filter goes. I removed the stock cooler (it's a lousy design anyway) and put the adapter directly on the block (I still have this adapter un-used on a shelf...) It allows you to point the lines in any direction you want. You'll need to first install a standard small block oil filter adapter. I had some fire sleeving on the lines at this end because of the headers. I then used -10 braided lines to a Canton remote filter mount bolted to where the A.I.R. pump used to live. I then plumbed the lines to a cooler out front.

I did away w/ my oil cooler as well. Oil pressure was not affected in a negative way. You dont have to gind down any bolts you could take them in to advanced and just buy 2 new ones for like $5.
