For all you OPTI HATERS Check out the RPM 16 (pcm on only registers the rpm to 6375 on rpm but the 16 bit data will register higher so look at rpm 16) this is not on jackstands or dyno...just a 355 daily driven with some mild mods and an OEM opti from EBAY.
I have seen 6900+ rpm on a regular basis with my GM opti. The issue is they do not tend to last all that long at this rpm.
I went through 1 early this summer and seen what I thought was the cause in the cap. The new GM opti had a little clearancing done to the cap for the rotor and had no issue all summer.

my 140k mile GM opti saw that RPM all the time after i cammed the motor. it outlasted the rods and went into a friends car whom blew his up because he trash talked it all the time. he trash talked mine every day for a week and it blew up on him. my MSD opti is beaten on regularly and has no issues either. moral of story: NEVER trash talk your opti! lol
