Default One thing after another...

I wish if stuff would break it would at least break right after I fix something else lol...

My car overheated 2 days ago and I checked the radiator and it was bone dry, so I filled it and decided to watch the levels for any leaks.

So I didn't check it yesterday, and driving on the way home today (1 hour) was completely normal.

Stopped to get gas, started the car and got back on the highway and it instantly overheated.

Turns out my radiator is cracked toward the top side near the cap.

So I'm just wondering what can cause this other than age?
Car has 160 tstat and always ran 50/50 mix through the radiator.

should just be age. on my 96 there was a very small crack near where you are describing. it didnt affect anything but it could only have been from age. just get a stock replacement for it. LT1 radiators are more than capable of handling your cooling needs

I have never had an issue with mine. Its most likely age coupled with possibly a bad run in prodution. This can happen with anything. Might be a good time to buy Griffin or Be cool.

I'm always hearing how someone's LT1 is overheating. It completely confuses me, I have never overheated, well with the proper set up anyways, but for an Iron block they run pretty cool, probably thanks to the reverse flow.
But that really sucks man, a new one shouldn't run ya too much past $100.

And do you want to know why!? Lack of maintenance that they usually blame on DEX-COOL. Things break we all have been there, its the nature of everything. But many times people never think to maintain the cooling system by draining or flushing and periodically changing the cap and thermostat. And in many cases a thermostat will last way beyond 100K if the radiator fluid is simply drained every 35-40K. Makes me laugh how some overlook this only to blame the car.

Realize Im am not addressing the OP, just people who neglect their ****.

Ahh, there we go, lack of regular maintenance, but in this case is it lack of care or just a worn radiator?
