help! cleaning opti
help! cleaning opti I'm doing thr timing cover gasket and was advised to clean out the opti and silicone iit. How do I go about doing this. And how do I get the balancer mount out. I have a puller and its a PITA. Do I need to mark it like the book says and if so how do I keep it from turning the crank?...apperently the filter fell of the k&n and now my TB is nasty. Have to clean that also now.
i always have a problem with the puller not enggaging the crank so make sure its against the crank in the bolt hole..
Also it is best to put it back on in the same orientation. sometimes it doesnt make a difference..b ut sometimes it does.
I usaully wedge a long prybar or a screwdriver in the flywheel holes and the block.
last .. get the ol opti off and you will need a small torks bit with a inverted dimple or hole in the middle to get the screws off to dissassemble the unit. If you plan on opening it up..you might as well get a new cap and rotor. can make a big difference if its got some decent mileage or if you got an aftermarket ignition box cranking up the voltage. The cap and rotor kits come with a new gasket..but i like to silicone it around the connector plug part of the unit.
