Default aftermarket pcm ??

i was doin alot of research last night and kinda dreaming but i was dreaming plans for the farther future. and i had a question. at wat point is the stock pcm no good? wat aftermarket computer is best for the ltx motor? and last question is it possible to put an actual distributor into the car with the motor still in? i think ive hear the block needs machining. id appreciate answers even though i was dreaming i was kinda planning.

I am shooting for about 950rwhp and am going to use an LS-1 ECM along with EFI Connections 24x conversion for the LT-1. Check them out here www.notasponsor.com I just bought this kit a few days ago.

Hey how much did the EFI connection run you? did you get the whole kit to make it run on a ls1 computer? I want this because I want to build my LT1 and not swap over but dont want to deal with replacing opti's AT ALL

I got the kit for $525 which still needs the LS1 ECM coils and wiring harness to run. Since I am utilizing a double roller I am going to buy the TPIS billet timing cover as well. I'm on the fence right now with respect to which direction I am going with the wiring harness. I can either get the do it yourself kit for $100 or buy the plug and play for $850. I have heard the plug and play is very nice. I have little patience for things like wiring! lol

With this unit the opti is 100% DELETED! Its a beautiful thing.

On a build without boost there really is no need for anything other than the factory ecm.

I plan on going with the plug and play harness. Personally I know my harness is toast, and after so many years of abuse it is not that easy to find a good condition used harness to repin.

I figure ya might as well spend the extra few hundred and save a ton of time and headache searching for a good condition harness and repinning it yourself, and just get a nice new one that will all plug right up.

Although I no longer have a LT1, I’m keeping up on what’s going on with it. The EFI Connections setup is genius.

355, what’s this billet timing cover from TPIS you speak of?

They offer three, one for the vortec small block chevrolet and two for the LT-1. Very awesome looking CNC'd piece. It allows more room for a double roller timing chain. One of the LT-1 covers comes with a provision for the water pump drive and the other is with out. They are on efi connections web site.

I got the plug and play harness with the altenator power wire extended and a shift light connection, which will replace the entire engine harness. The "stand alone harness is more for if you're installing an LTx in a non 93-02 fbody.
