Default Help with a cam

Ok, I dont wanna try and repost a topic, but cant seem to get alot of help. I know there is a section here that explains different cams. So here is what I am needing, I have 94 Z-28 about to have the engine rebuilt. I wanna buy a cam but cant figure out which would be best. I want more power than stock but still be able to pass emissions without having to do a tune. Also am wanting to keep the price under 600 for everything that I need to go with the cam...springs, lifters..ect. I looked at the HOTCAM kit but have heard that the springs and such are junk on it...so was looking at the cc305 or cc502....can someone help me maybe come up with a whole setup for under 600..even if some of the stuff is used....need to get my car into shop...its gonna cost me about 1000 in parts and about 1800 for labor...seeing as motor is still in car and im not a mechanic....

Under $600 is pushing it. I suggest you save up a bit more so that you can afford all of the right parts. Budget closer to $1000 in parts to do it right. These are just ballpark figures, BTW.

Lifters: $120
Rockers: $300
Cam: $300
Timing set: $100
Gaskets/misc: $100
Springs/hardware: $150

You can also contact www.advancedinduction.com for cam packages as well.

Hot cam kit if your on a budget. Springs might not be the best in the world but for that cam they are perfect.

I would save up a little more and get a custom grid cam with supporting mods but if $600 is your limit period Like said the Hot cam kit is your best bet

I'm not a fan of the hotcam kit, too much spend for too little gain and I don't trust the parts that come in the kit.
I think you'd be much happier if you held off until you had a little extra to spend.

He'll help you figure out what works best and tell you what you need to make it work.
No BS, just honest advice, even if you don't end up buying from him.

I appreciate the help so far guys....although right now the situation im in I need my car running again, its my daily driver still and I have been without it for a little while now...I would love to save up and build the car up good, but im needing it done now and since im rebuilding the engine I find it easier to have the cam put in now instead of later. Like I said im already about to pay about 1000 in parts alone for the rebuild plus around 1800 if im lucky on labor.

Anyway you go you're going to need springs to go along with the new cam.

Going with after-market parts, new HR cam runs in the $300 range, and to that you have to add the cost of the springs. If you go with BeeHive springs, you may be able to save a little by re-using your existing retainers and locks, so that's a plus. You can re-use your lifters if they're still in good shape.

You are probably going to need new rocker arms too because, dependent on your cam choice, the stock rockers may not give the clearances needed.

So far, your budget has been wiped out unless you go with the HotCam kit. So since $$$ is a big factor, your options are really limited to that kit.
