Default Another "which cam thread"

Hey guys, I have been doing some research and still just don't know which cam to go with. I am going to be running stock heads for now so keep that in mind. I really wanted to go with the CC306 but, the more I read about it, it seems its just too big of a cam for stock heads. So I've been thinking, maybe the CC503 or XE 230/236? I just don't know for sure. I want something thats going to make some decent power and sound good. If there is another cam that would work better than one of those 2, please let me know.

Mods are in sig and the car is a M6 with 3:42's. Thanks in advance

Have you ever thought of keeping your stock cam and advancing crank timing?

DONT LISTEN TO THIS GUY!! he wants to run motorcycle oil in his car!!

anyways out of the choices of cams you listed id say the cam youre going to be getting the most USEABLE POWER will be the cc503 and great driveability. the comp 230/236 and cc306 will dyno more and blah blah blah but if you dont mind reving ur stock bottom end past 6500 than a cc306 is not bad with a m6 car. useable power is what you want. if you plan on doing heads later than id say def. go with cc306 or even the 230/236 but honestly if your going to be doing heads id go with a custom cam.

How safe is it to spin the stock bottom end to 6500?

you know what..everyone is going to say different things. BOLO on here runs a stock bottom end and shifts way past that and many others as well. every car is different though. but honestly getting power out of the cc306 you are going to shift it pretty high IF YOUR DRAG RACING. honestly daily driving it its not bad with a m6 car. its a good cam and will make good power on the top end. you should def. run a 3.73-4.10 with that cam though.

The stock heads will limit how high you can spin the 306 and still make decent power.

I think you'll be much happier with the CC503. There's a reason so many LT1s with stock unported heads use it.

10308-1 for springs if you can get your hands on them, trickflow molly 1 piece pushrods and crane gold or ultramag rockers.

crane 103081 kit or 918 should be fine for the springs, 7.200 hardened pushrods and run a 1.6rr nsa with guide plates with the 503 and u will have good results. you dont have to go nsa on the rockers but thats up to you. also theres a single coil spring from bullet which lloyd elliot recommends..for the money u cant beat them. this is what he wrote about them....

The Bullet VS 2700 is a NICE single spring that works with stock retainers, locks and locators. It has 145 lbs of seat pressure and 360 lbs open pressure while handling cams with moderate ramp speeds up to .575 lift safely (GM 846, CC 503, CC 306, my 226/230 .565/.565 111 LSA cam, etc). These are made of a nice quality wire and will live a long time. probably one of the nicest single 'drop in" springs for the LT1. These are $130 shipped thru Bullet Racing cams.

Also, I just read this thread where someone was using the Bullet VS2700 springs and had one break after 1200miles.

Here's the thread...
https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-m...-bad-news.html

Seems like the PAC springs are nice but are pretty expensive. Also heard good things about Comp pro magnum but again they are expensive. Guess ill be saving up for a while.
