Question Is it possible to swap a LS1 center console in our cars?

I can get a center console from a 00' for cheap and mine is all beat up, is it a direct swap or minor modifications at the most? does everything line up? any pics?

yes it can be done. the LS1 console was actually used in 1997 cars. I don't know how hard it is to do though. I think its easier on a firebird than a camaro because the dash didn't change on the T/A and firebird like it did on the camaro.

The bare body of the cars didn't change. It should bolt right in.

thats true however on the camaro the dash changed which i beleive requires modification of the console to fit properly under the older style dash.

the firebird model will bolt right in and look factory. but on the camaro putting the 98-02 console along with a 93-97 dash there will be an (approx.) 3" gap between the console and the dash.

I've done it to my 95 camaro, currently doing a dash swap.

You might as well get the whole dash from a 97-02 Camaro. You will need a gauge cluster from a 93-96 Trans-Am also, a 97' V8 cluster might work but I'm not sure. I did this swap on three cars...

the 97 cluster should work. i've heard of people swapping the 97 cluster into 93-96 cars for the digital odometer.

Firebirds its no problem, Camaros just look goofy because of the dash design. I have a 99 console in my 93.

Do you think that if you plug in a 97 Z28 gauge cluster into your Trans Am that it would work? If it is just plug and play I will get one tomorrow. I have a 94' Z28 with the new dash but, I have the analog Trans Am cluster because I didn't want to waste money on the 97' cluster if it didn't work.

not sure on a z28 into a trans am but i think a 97 trans am cluster is PnP into a 94-96 (i think 93 is different) T/A and a 97 z28 cluster is PnP into a 94-96 camaro.

I haven't done this so i'm not sure. you might want to start a new thread asking about it.

if your car is a firebird then yes it will work without having any gap. If it is a camero then no there will be a gap.

Sorry to bring up an ancient thread but I have a 94 trans am and i recently picked up a 5speed ebony console from a 97+ car. Obviously it will bolt in but will I have this gap everyone is talking about?
