I can get a center console from a 00' for cheap and mine is all beat up, is it a direct swap or minor modifications at the most? does everything line up? any pics?

yes it can be done. the LS1 console was actually used in 1997 cars. I don't know how hard it is to do though. I think its easier on a firebird than a camaro because the dash didn't change on the T/A and firebird like it did on the camaro.

the firebird model will bolt right in and look factory. but on the camaro putting the 98-02 console along with a 93-97 dash there will be an (approx.) 3" gap between the console and the dash.

You might as well get the whole dash from a 97-02 Camaro. You will need a gauge cluster from a 93-96 Trans-Am also, a 97' V8 cluster might work but I'm not sure. I did this swap on three cars...

Do you think that if you plug in a 97 Z28 gauge cluster into your Trans Am that it would work? If it is just plug and play I will get one tomorrow. I have a 94' Z28 with the new dash but, I have the analog Trans Am cluster because I didn't want to waste money on the 97' cluster if it didn't work.

I haven't done this so i'm not sure. you might want to start a new thread asking about it.

Sorry to bring up an ancient thread but I have a 94 trans am and i recently picked up a 5speed ebony console from a 97+ car. Obviously it will bolt in but will I have this gap everyone is talking about?
