Default Stripped abs brake fitting...how to replace

I stripped the brake nuts that thread into the ABS unit when I was dropping my kmember. I tried a flare wrench and it stripped so I had to use vice grips on them.

Instead of reinstalling them the same way, I'd like to fix them if possible.

If someone has done this and can offer some advice I'd appreciate it.

Cut the existing flare off, install new fitting and re-flare.

good luck, make sure you use the correct flaring tool. There are several different types of flaring and I don't immediately recall which type we use. Even with the correct tool, I struggle every time and swear never to touch brake lines again.

They are a PITA to do and the results can be hit or miss.

I had the same problem cracking loose the ABS module flares too. I tried a flare wrench and it did not fit tight and tried to strip it out.

I then took a crows foot wrench, heated it up with a torch and closed it up a bit in a vice. It now fits the flare nut super snug and with a wratchet will crack the flare loose without a blemish.

From the sounds of it, maybe its best to leave it be and just tighten it down with vice grips.

I didn't want to do that but on the other hand I also don't want to deal with leaking brake lines if the flare doesn't work properly.

You need a 45-degree bubble flaring tool, FYI. Done right it will seal just as good as the factory. Don't forget to put on the fitting BEFORE you flare the end.

I heard vice grips in conjunction with flare tool works well. (for taking it off so you dont strip it)

If I had a buck for every time I forgot to put the fitting on and flared the tube.

I had to bend, cut, and flare my own lines for my 9" rear, and prebent and flared about half of the lines before I realized what I had done. Woops!

If anyone is wondering, a dealer will not sell pre-bent lines. Not sure if they ever did, but an idiot I knew forgot to take the brake lines off when removing engine from bottom about 4 years ago. Called the dealer and they stated he was SOL.

Thats my understanding too. I would hate to have to make a replacement full front brake line. The back would not be too awful bad.

I recently re-designed my hard steel fuel line to work better with my true duals. That was big PITA too.
