Default Fueling issue, WTF?

So just for a little background, I would guess its been about two years I had a walbro/racetronix setup installed. Today on my way to class I snag some gas, put in 12 gallons. I am going to be potentially late for class so I kinda get on the car in 1st. I make it about 50 feet and the car just dies on me. I pull over, try to start the car. There is no sound indicating the pump trying to prime, and my fuel pressure gauge is reading 18psi steady, I'm assuming whatever pressure is left in the line.

So I'm going to look for the fuel pump relay and hope that is bad. What else could be preventing the pump from running? I want to examine all available options, before I cut the trap door into my car, because you know, the tank is now full! Guess I won't be dropping it out if it is the pump.

Has anyone had a 255lph walbro die instantly, while the car was running? This pump showed no signs of weakness, I look at the pressure gauge a few times daily while in my travels, still was showing 39psi or so at a constant speed and 43psi at WOT.

So I'm looking at the diagram on both the underhood fuse/relay box, and the passenger compartment fuse box. Nothing about fuel, and the only thing with the work pump on it, is for the air pump. Which fuse or relay actually deals with the fuel circuit?

The FP Relay is on the Driver's Side..in the Car, under the piece of Molding that is near the Hood Release. You have to remove it to get to it.

Once you get it out you will see it..can't really miss it honestly. That and there is no fuse on that Circuit..I havent found one anyways..it consists of the Command Wire from the PCM, the Ground, then a 12V in from a Fuseable Link on the Junction, then a 12V out to the Pump. You can also check for power by going to the back of the car, drivers side under the wheel well and look for some wiring being plugged into a connector on the body. There will be 2 plugs..one for the Brakes, the other for the FP. Check that with a Test Light and turn the Key on and off to see if it gets power.

Edit.. Here is a pic off of Rob's site..

Yea probably..I've messed with them all the way to 1997 and it's been located where it is in the pic. I've seen them under the hood with the LS1 Cars and that File Cabinet of a Fuse Box that they have.

It's all good..how was it placed under the Hood..was it in the Fuse Box factory looking, or did it look like it was put there?

I know a guy with a 1997 T/A, and his is in the Car..the Fuse Boxes are the same size from 1993-1997..and pretty much the same Fuses & Relays.

Thanks, now for future reference I will know where it is. Yeah the Haynes said 93-95 is usually in the passenger compartment, but they didn't mention it was under the dead pedal, and stated that 96-97 was usually found in the engine's relay box.

Alright well it wasn't anything factory related anyway. I remembered that there was a 20 amp fuse inline in the racetronix wiring. That is what blew, replaced that car fired right off.

Yeah I'm curious too. I can't see where that wire is grounded out or anything, so I have no idea. All I know is what I did today, filled her up, then let her rip. Never made it out of first. I have to leave for class in a hour, decided fuses don't weigh much and stuck a variety of them in my glovebox. I guess I will see if there are any other issues with it today.

My theory now on why it blew is that the wire is run right off of the alternator. Perhaps the alternator put out a higher amperage than usual? On occasion my car will idle high for about 10 seconds at startup, around 1500rpm. Then I more or less went WOT as soon as I had the car straight after making my turn. So that is my thought, maybe it was the alternator. Fuel pressure gauge shows the pump is still happy, 43psi at 3/4 throttle or more, voltmeter also shows no sign of a weakening alternator. Don't know.

All aftermarket pump wiring runs directly off of the alternator. It's the "cleanest" source of 12v+ power.

Ya until the Regulator goes out and it starts surging..maybe that is why the Fuse blew.
