Default What spline axles

I have a stock 10 bolt that I'm going to slap some new axles in and I'm wondering what the spline would be? I'm going to use the stock 10 bolt and beef it up a little bit considering I had got 3:73 gears in it a few years ago and still to this day have around 500 miles on them. I'm looking to sturdy up the axle tubes with a new pumpkin cover that I can weld up a few attachment point's to and then weld a few attachment points to the actual axle tubes and then hook up some adjustable bars to connect the 2. Pretty cheap all though i would like to get some new moser axles! I need the spline to use so let me know, thanks and opinions a great! Thanks steve

Just save your money and build a 9" Its not worth it to try and build up a 10 bolt in the end it will still be weak.

Do this.

Buy a QTP 9" setup and be done with it.

Thanks, this is what I need to know. I have a leak in the front yolk and the back cover. I figure since I was redoing the breaks I would just drop the rear out right quick and fix the leaks, install some new axles and connect the axle tubes to a new cover with some adjustable bars....This will by far be way less than a $2800 moser 12 bolt or 9". The stocker will handle enough from what I hear. Even with a 150 shot I'm not scared to use it....Eventually I will get a bad *** one but hell that could be a year or 2 and I still want to have fun with mine at the track this spring to see what these 355 has in'er

What's a good place to buy axles from! Does anyone have a moser 12" or 9" that will be a direct fit that is looking to get rid of one. This is about the only way I would be interested in one at the moment, which is a used one. Cant really afford a brand new one. My wife would kill me if I took our income taxes and spent that on a new rear end, lol!

A beefed up 10-bolt will still add up, and when it breaks, you're going to be out that much cash you could put toward a 9", 12-bolt, or S60.

You can beef it up all you want with welding the tubes, etc., but you're still left with the weakness that plagues the 10-bolt - the weak 7 5/8" ring gear and relatively high pinion placement on the ring gear.

stitch weld the tubes to the center section also... i have also ran 1x1-1/2 rectangular tubing from the center section to the axle flanges on 8.8 rearends..

it will definetly stiffen it up alot.. but i don't see you bulletproofing these rearends.

gm sure dropped the ball on the rearends in these cars, some engineer and bean counter should have lost their jobs over it..

For the car in stock form, they are fuel efficient (which took priority over ANYTHING) and strong enough for a (mostly) stock application.

GM is failing because of a well-designed purpose-built rear-end. You've saved the industry!

So it would be stupied to install some new moser axles, a TA girdle, and then connect the cove to the axle tubes? I don't know, maybe I should save up. Regardless the bitch is leaking in the front and back, so i'm going to atleast remove it, have it sanblasted, fix the 2 leaks and then paint it and slap it back in. It's winter so I have time. I'm also getting ready to add my stainless steel trans lines with 6 an fittings to the tranny where it's leaking. Bastard *** car!

The TA girdle might be a decent investment in the short-term, but much past that is a waste, IMO.

Some may agree, others won't.

Regarding the "cheap parts..." It is because GM could then sell a high powered muscle car at a very low price. Even when the 4th gen was introduced it was known for being a parts bin car.

Ok so can we get over the who has a bigger ***** factor! Is it worth it for me to slap in some new moser axles and a TA girdle? I'm not looking at this point to drop $2800 on a new rear end, out of the ? at the moment.

YES. I have a stock 10 bolt with TA girdle running behind my stalled auto. I have hundreds of runs down the 1/4mile with it. All the runs in the last 5 years have been on nitrous with 60's into the low 1.6s with ETs in the 11s. You will be fine with an automatic car. It is much easier on the rearend and the 10 bolt can last a long time.
